Plot: For the second time in her career, Julia Stiles plays a character romancing the Crown Prince of Denmark in The Prince & Me, a romantic wish-fulfillment fantasy from director Martha Coolidge. Far from her role as Ophelia in 2000's Hamlet, however, Stiles plays Paige, a plucky, determined college student from the Midwest who's buried in her last few semesters of pre-med studies when she meets Eddie, a brash, impudent Danish foreign-exchange student who just happens to have a mysterious partner (Ben Miller) shadowing him in everything he does. What Paige doesn't know is that Eddie is in fact the spoiled son of the King (James Fox) and Queen (Miranda Richardson) of Denmark, on holiday in America hoping to find a nonstop keg party complete with buxom American babes. What he and his butler don't count on is squalid dorm life, final exams, and the possibility that Eddie might actually find his true soul mate in the sensible Paige. But when Eddie finally reveals his secret, will Paige want to give up her dreams of becoming a doctor for a playboy prince? ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

Unfortunately I'm an Aussie
Added 11/10/2009

This film is an ideal 'get away from it all' movie. Unfortunately the scriptwriters chose an actual country for this film and didn't research it properly. At that time the real romance was occurring.
The Crown Prince of Denmark is actually Frederick not Edouard. His girlfriend's name at the time was Mary Donaldson who was born in Tasmania, Australia. They met at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney and kept in contact by email for many months before Mary moved to Europe to be closer to Frederick. They became engaged in late 2002.
If the scriptwriters had chosen any other country than Denmark, or preferably created one, this wouldn't be an issue. However, if one knows the real story it lowers the crediblity and enjoyment of this movie.
If you don't know the facts of the Danish royal family this film is thoroughly enjoyable. If like me you do, you feel constant frustration. Even literary licence isn't enough to enable me to completely feel great about it.

A charming modern fairy tale for kids

For a made-for-TV movie, this movie is pretty good. Both Julia Stiles and Luke Malby convey the right mix of seriousness and levity that the story demands. The story itself is a plausible revamping of classic cinderella/Anna and the King fairy tale.

Don't both with the sequels - they're not worth your time.

Right item, horrible shipping

I ordered the right item, at a really good price. But for some reason, it took over a month AND a re-shipment in order to get this item. I like the item, but the company needs to buck-up on their shipping policies

Cute movie, a bit of an off-the-shelf Cinderella'ish story though. But then, teenage romantic comedies usually are...
