Plot: A political consultant in the midst of a bitter divorce attempts to delicately divulge the truth about his past relationships to his curious young daughter, who simply won't stop asking questions until she's satisfied with all the answers. Ten-year-old Maya (Abigail Breslin) is heartbroken to see her parents splitting up, but she's determined to find out precisely how it was that mom and dad came together in the first place. When Maya starts questioning her father Will (Ryan Reynolds) about his life before marriage, dad's memories soon drift back to the time when, as a naïve Wisconsin native and aspiring politician hoping to work on the presidential election, he first arrived in New York City. As Will gradually became savvy to the ways of the big city, he gradually developed romantic relationships with three very different women: Emily (Elizabeth Banks) was the girl-next-door that he could always depend on, apolitical April (Isla Fisher) was the best friend and confidante who was always there to listen, and free-spirited journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz) was both beautiful and ambitious. In order to prevent his perceptive little girl from predicting the outcome before his story is told, Will carefully changes the names of his three romantic interests, creating a hopelessly romantic puzzle that highlights both the joys and hardships of true love. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Ryan Reynolds break through
Added 11/13/2009

This is the best Ryan Reynolds movie I've seen. It displays his full range of acting ability (which is quite good - he can be extremely funny but also has full dramatic leading man capacity) and the movie is just surprisingly good. I recommend this movie. As a strange aside that just popped into my head, Adam Sandler should step aside from doing movies like Click and Bedtime Stories and hand those roles over to Reynolds - he would have made those movies twice as good.

Anyway it was a good story with nice twists, much less predictable than many romcoms, it was funny and just plain good. Ryan Reynolds is something of a revelation in this role.

Great movie...well done... put it right up there near Notting Hill and A Lot Like Love... music could've been a little better... bill

Dynamic Romantic Comedy
Added 10/15/2009

An obvious romantic comedy, but pretty dynamic as the scene is New York. Few good jokes, sweet main characters, especially the child.. Loved Summer's comments, love NY humor!

Definitely Maybe

This is a great little chick flick and has the added enjoyment of trying to guess the answer to the little girls query before they tell us.
