Plot: American Psycho 2 features Rachel Newman Mila Kunis as the sole escapee of the murderous yuppie from the first film, Patrick Bateman. Since her brush with death, Rachel has found herself unhealthily obsessed with serial killers and their psyches. When former FBI agent Robert Starkman (William Shatner), who handled the original Bateman case, takes a job teaching one of Rachel's college classes, he hopes it will provide him with a needed break from the stress of murder and violent crime cases. Unfortunately, Rachel becomes dangerously infatuated with Professor Starkman, and decides that she'll be his teaching assistant, no matter what the cost. Now Rachel is the serial killer, murdering anyone she thinks is in the way of her potential job. Someone must catch on to her secret before she kills again. Morgan J. Freeman (Hurricane Streets) directs this addendum to the controversial story based on Bret Easton Ellis' controversial novel. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

So bad it's good- just pretend that it's not a sequel
Added 2/9/2009

You know those movies that are so terrible that they're actually fun to watch? This movie is one of them. As a sequel to the incredibly awesome & tense American Psycho it fails miserably. In fact, don't even think of it as a sequel- you'll just be disappointed horribly. Go into this with the same zest you would for a cheesy 80s horror flick, which is what this movie mostly closely resembles. If you aren't a fan of those types of movies then you won't like this flick.

The plotline follows overachiever Rachael Newman as she first starts out as a would-be victim of the infamous Patrick Bateman. (For you AP fans, just pretend that this is another character & that this has nothing to do with the original film.) After escaping & ending his murder spree she decides that she'll spend the rest of her life trying to enter Quantico, where she can put away the bad guys like him. Years later she's in a prestigious university where the US's best criminologist Starkman (who is played to perfection by Shatner) teaches. He announces that he's getting ready to have a new TA, which is a coveted role because it almost guarantees acceptance into Quantico. Rachael decides that she wants this position enough to kill for it.

This is not a good movie. It's downright awful. But then, there's an art to bad movies where they become amazingly fun to watch & this movie has that down to a T. Like I said earlier, don't expect anything from this as far as the original movie goes. (Luckily I wasn't expecting anything so I was able to enjoy it.) Mila Kunis does the best job that she can with the role given to her & Shatner does what he does best in the role of a sleazy college professor. (What, like anyone expects him to actually play a nice guy? This *is* Shatner, you know.) Kunis really steals the show, so fans of her will be sure to be pleased.

As long as you don't take it seriously & are in the mood to watch a good cheesy flick, this will be sure to please. If you're looking for something that's a real follow up to the original film then you're better off reading the phone book or staring at the wall- you'll be more likely to find it there than in this film. I really feel like this film was done a disservice by attaching the American Psycho name to it, otherwise I think it would have done much better on it's own & developed more of a cult following.

4/5 for the guilty pleasure of watching it

1/5 for the actual quality of the film- it is what it is, a flick that really isn't very good. (still love it, though)

One Reason to Watch This Film (But don't pay money for it)
Added 11/9/2008

This film is in stark contrast to the Original "American Psycho," which had good actors, story, and philosophical depth, whereas this so-called sequel was almost a complete waste. However, WILLIAM SHATNER has a big role in this film and therefore, this movie, (despite the fact that it's an insult to the original... poorly written, doesn't even have a remotely believable plot and is one of the crappiest movies of all time...) is still worth watching because, thanks to the Shat, it has cult appeal. Not the kind of cult appeal that the original has, no, but cult appeal nonetheless. Just do yourself a favor and watch this piece of crap when it comes free to on demand cable or something. Don't pay money for it Not even a dollar. You'd be better off buying a lottery ticket. I give this film two stars. If the Shat wasn't in this film, I would give it zero stars, or perhaps negative stars. It's unfortunate that I paid three whole dollars for the DVD. I was FLEECED!!!

Goi it on DVR, almost bought it cuz it was the sequel to my fav movie. I was so saddened by how terrible it was. Maybe a yuppie into cute girl movies wold like it, but if you like anything about Christian bales take on serial killers, dont ever, ever consider this. Acting was good if not boring, kills were spoken over with terrible narration, captain kirk wasnt even a good actor. I now have to completely remove this from my mind...

Not

When I first saw American Psycho 2 at the store, I went this must be so cool - it's a sequel to American Psycho how could it be bad. Well I wouldn't say it's the worst movie I've ever seen, it's not a worthy successor to the original. Mila Kunis (that chick from "That 70's Show") plays the lead killer in this movie. I'm sorry but she can come even within 10 percent of the quality that Christian Bale brought to the original movie. The movie kind of drags on and I can say that this style of movie is not the best vehicle for Kunis.

I'm sure they could have picked worse actresses so I won't say the film is entirely her fault. The link between this movie and hte original is that Kunis's character had a babysitter that dated and was attacked by Patrick Bateman in front of her. She stabs Bateman - fast forward a few years until she is in college. She studying criminology and eventually becomes a killer. Gone are the nuances of the original. The wondering if it was all in her head or real. This is a straight up B movie slasher film. It discredits the original by having the link and the title it shares.

A brilliant social satire disguised as fantasy
Added 6/18/2008

The monologues and dialogues of this movie are among the best you can find in the movie industry. The performance of Mila Kunis is just perfect. I am glad this social satire is not spoiled by too many grisly scenes. Don't view it as a movie about serial killers. It is about a type of people we are all familiar with. If you love Moliere, you will love this movie.
