Plot: Family ties and violent crime make strange bedfellows in the thriller New Blood. Alan White (John Hurt) is a British businessman who is the father of a pair of twins. Alan's son Danny (Nick Moran) has fallen into a life of crime, while his daughter is in the hospital, in desperate need of a heart transplant. One day, Danny appears at Alan's doorstep, bleeding severely, with an unusual proposition. Danny will volunteer his heart for his sister's transplant if Alan will participate in a very dangerous con. Danny and his friends are working for a crime boss named Mr. Ryan (Eugene Robert Glazer), who has arranged the kidnapping of Williams (Rob Freeman), a wealthy but reclusive man. Danny and his boys are not told that Williams is under armed guard, and the attempted kidnapping is a disaster, with Williams accidentally killed. Danny is seriously injured and does not expect to survive, but rather than risk the wrath Ryan would inflict on his friends, Danny asks Alan to take Williams' place -- Ryan doesn't know what the man looks like, so while the scam is very dangerous, it could be pulled off. New Blood is the feature debut from writer-director Michael Hurst. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I bought this DVD because of the very sexy Carrie-Anne Moss. I figured with her at least the movie wouldn't be a flop. I was disappointed. Carrie-Anne was in a limited number of scenes and had limited dialog. Her character was so bland and unnecessary that she wasn't even allowed to show off any of her acting tallents. The movie was purposely filmed very dark, mostly outside at night but even inside the buildings there was limited lighting. It was difficult to make out the characters because half of their face was usually in the shadows. The plot is ever changing and you can't tell what is the truth and what isn't, and it really doesn't matter. No character draws you into their plight, which leaves you wondering if you even care what happens next. The best part of the movie was the brief appearance of Eugene Robert Glasier (who played Operations on La Femme Nikita) as mobster boss Mr. Ryan. If you are a hard core fan of Carre-Ann Moss or Eugene Robert Glasier you will enjoy this movie, otherwise I suggest you not waste 90 minutes of your life on this movie.

Great unknown movie

New Blood was a very good movie and deffinetly didn't get enough credit. If your looking for a good exiting movie to get, id deffinetly go with this. The acting was very good, and the standout of the cast was deffinetly Carrie Anne Moss, who was funny, mysterious, and of course beautiflu all at the same time.
If you want to see a good underated movie, you have to see the New Blood!

Another Guy Ritchie?
Added 11/6/2001

I caught this on Cinemax and thought it was another Guy Ritchie sequel to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". I was surprised that it wasn't, but no matter. It's good fun, especially not knowing what's really happening until the very end. Its plot may be implausible -- and having a kid smart enough to pull off something like this, but still only a punk car thief -- but you'll believe every twist and turn.
