Plot: This entertaining teen comedy is set in the effervescent 1950s and involves the friendship of the introverted, clumsy Jonathan (Doug McKeon) and the nonconformist, extroverted Gene (Chris Nash). Jonathan's main objective is to win over the sexy Marilyn (Kelly Preston), in spite of his shyness, while Gene has his own love-life to maintain with his girlfriend Bunny (Catherine Mary Stewart) -- as well as counseling Jonathan on how to attract women. Gene also has to defend himself against Kenny (D.W. Brown) the class bully while trying to work out a borderline relationship with his widowed father, who has zero tolerance for his often wild escapades. As Jonathan and Gene handle life's challenges, the 1950s emerges as a potent presence on screen in the form of background setting, including movies and music, as well as dress and customs that were popular in that distinctive era. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Something to watch after watching "American Graffiti,"
Added 6/6/2009

Do you have, like, a lot of DVD's? Do you have so many that you started to create a rating system for how you want to appreciate your movies? I rate my movies as 1 to 5 stars and I keep a list of all my 5 star movies.

This movie "Mischief" is a five star movie to me. I discovered this the third time that I've watched it. The picture quality is great. The depiction of life of a male teenage "horndog", a misunderstood tortured soul heartthrob, and good girls who get the hots for bad boys. These issues are represented well in this movie. If you think that American Graffiti is the ultimate 50's or 60's teenage high school drama, then you better check out this movie.

This is a great Saturday afternoon matinee type film, just like American Graffiti. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys 50's and early 60's pop culture films. The cast is fabulous and the movie deserves more recognition than it's gotten.

Mischief

We received our DVD of Mischief today. Look forward to watching later this week when we get time. Loved it since it debuted. I saw it at the show way back when. I have a taped copy I recorded off HBO about ten years ago.

I loved the soundtrack but I guess it was never released on an LP or CD. A shame as it contained a few songs I don't have in my collection.

The cover art I question. Why they chose to use the Bel Air instead of the Jonathan's Studebaker I don't know.

Mischief, the movie
Added 2/8/2008

This is one of my all-time favorites...I'm a sixties generation person. I previously had this movie on VHS but, when I saw it available on Amazon in DVD Widescreen format, I purchased it immediately and am absolutely delighted that I did.

This, in my opinion, is a great, feel-good movie that anyone can, in one way or another, relate to their high school days. Except for clothing style changes by generation, this movie is relevant and enjoyable for all ages.

I thought the transfer to DVD was done very good.

If you like feel-good movies, buy it!
