Plot: Even without money problems, many divorced single parents have a hard row to hoe. At the drop of a hat, a competent, responsible professional person can be reduced to a frazzled, bumbling parent, when his or her children become unexpected daytime wards. This is what happens to Jack Taylor (George Clooney) when his ex-wife suddenly decides to elope, leaving their daughter with him. Unhappily for him, his reporting job demands one-hundred-percent commitment as he attempts to link corruption with city hall. The same sort of thing is true in the life of architect Melanie Parker (Michelle Pfeiffer). She must not only somehow prepare a complex multimillion-dollar real-estate development presentation, but must also keep up the pretense that she doesn't have a son because her boss loathes children. When Jack flubs his assignment of getting the two children off on a school day-trip, he and Melanie, who barely know each other, have to take turns caring for the kids. Mishap follows mishap, as the initially antagonistic Jack and Melanie get to know one another. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

It would have been fine if George Looney hadn't have been in this movie.
I like Michelle Pfeiffer, she's a good versatile Actress.
I give this movie a 4 of 5 stars for my dislike of George Boy!!

All music seemed clear and complete, and some songs that stick with you long after you've listened.

One Fine CD
Added 10/12/2009

This is an enjoyable mix to listen to, even if you aren't familiar with the movie. It's got just the right combination of romantic and fun songs to make it a great addition to my ipod albums. I recommend it!

Absolutely the best soundtrack out there
Added 5/1/2009

This is the perfect compilation of music. The movie is great, but the soundtrack is outstanding. Perfect background music for a dinner party. Natalie Merchant's "One Fine Day" gives the song an entirely new feel. Ditto on Harry Connick Jr.'s take on Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love With You." And I particularly love Ella Fitzgerald's "Isn't It Romantic." And yes, it certainly is. One would think that Tina Arena's "Love's Funny That Way" would seem out of place with its country/pop feel, but it fits in nicely and compliments well those that surround it. This is one of those music compilations that you can listen to over and over and it never gets old.

Absolutely awful movie
Added 3/12/2009

I absolutely hated this movie by the time it finished.
I think it is those awful kids that need to be told exactly how
things stand in the real world, instead of being told time and
time again "Its not your fault." And the poor kitten.
By the time the movie ended I would have thought with all that
running round, its poor little brain would have been scrambled
or it definately would have thrown up all over that awful
childs chest. I hope people DO NOT take this as an example
of how to look after a live animal...
I know where I will be putting this movie!!

up close

Such a great movie. Filled with all the right drama.....happiness, sadness and perseverence. Michelle Pfeiffer couldn't have given a more perfect performance and Robert Redford was right behind her giving it back. Great love story...

Fantastic movie!!!
Added 8/31/2008

This movie is an inspiring tale of life and love. Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Redford do an absolutely fantastic job of playing their characters in such a way that you forget that they are just acting. Their chemistry and romance are very believable. The timing of the film (from present to past, etc.) is flawless and doesn't get confusing as it can in some movies. The story teaches the old saying of "It's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all". I've watched this movie time and time again and I don't get tired of it.
