Plot: A modernized retelling of William Shakespeare's {+Othello}, O changes its setting to an elite private school in the American South. Odin (Mekhi Phifer) is the only black student at Palmetto Grove and also the star basketball player, with hopes of reaching the NBA. A popular student, he is dating Desi Brable (Julia Stiles), the daughter of the school's dean (John Heard), and they are deeply devoted to each other despite their different backgrounds. His best friend Hugo (Josh Hartnett) is a starter on the basketball team, and the son of the hard-driving coach Duke Goulding (Martin Sheen), who considers Odin as much his son as Hugo. Hugo is jealous of Odin's widespread popularity, so he hatches a scheme to ruin Odin's reputation with the help of Roger (Elden Henson), his rich roommate who will do anything to be popular and get Desi's attention. Through carefully planned revenge, he begins to make Odin believe that Desi is carrying out an affair with teammate Michael (Andrew Keegan). As Odin begins to receive merely coincidental signs to prove it, he begins to slowly lose his grounding and turns to Hugo for help, not knowing that he is being set up. As the basketball season comes to a close, Odin's jealousy begins to consume him, resulting in the loss of everything he cares about the most. O was sometime actor Tim Blake Nelson's directorial follow-up to his well-received debut Eye of God. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide

This movie was different from the original picture othello. It has different scence in this picture. Mekhi Phiffer and Julia Styles play a very awsome role in this picture. Well, i receive the two-disc special edition but it's all good. The movie was on point, i'm not saying it's the best, but on point. Thanks Amazon.

Josh Hartnett only real reason to watch,OTHERWISE!

5 stars for JOSH HARTNETT'S stunning, tour de force portrayal of the WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE villian Iago(renamed Hugo for the film),but only
just a star for the actual movie itself.First of all,I would like to
mention that this film had ENORMOUS POTENTIAL!But unfortunately,Hollywood
once again commited the outright ACT OF SACRILEGE to the TRUE WORKS OF
SHAKESPEARE by setting his "OTHELLO" in present day NORTH AMERICA!Not
only that, they once again resort to throwing in every modern OBSCENE
thing with the exception of your proverbial KITCHEN SINK just to draw
in every REBELIOUS TEENAGER OFF THE STREET THAT THEY CAN FIND to BRING
IN THE DOUGH AT THE BOX OFFICE!!!!!!!!!This TEENIE BOPPER movie has it
all: VULGAR LANGUAGE,DRUG USE,STRONG SEXUAL CONTENT AND DIALOGUE,AND
VIOLENCE!Yepper, that'll draw'em all in!PUUUUUUUUH-LEEEEEEASE!If they kept the same AWESOME cast of young thespians, were strictly faithful to SHAKESPEARE'S original, and had it set in the right time
period, the movie would be a TRUE CONTENDER without question!!!!!!!!
