silver dollars in the Hoover Dam?
Added 9/28/2009
Beautiful smart Mexican girls seem to be a discovery to
this New Yorker. The south west has been dealing with them
since the 19th century.
The culture clash here leads to some funny situations
where the men in suits meet the Mexican male
face to face? People with complete Mexican heritage
are still found everywhere in the south west
with close relatives in Mexico, but who also
speak native south west English and have college
educations. "Doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs" is the old phrase
that hold true here?
Anyway the New York fellow finds out she is more woman
than he has ever found in an east coast educated girl.
And she's having his baby...
I enjoyed the movie and it gave me some laughs
when the two cultures both find they are
dealing with their prejudices in an embarrassing way.

Matt Perry's Best
Added 8/2/2009
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Matthew Perry is fresh off of his first three seasons of Friends, at the peak of his career. His character Alex is funny, witty, charming, endearing and adorable. He plays very well off of Hayek's fiery and stubborn Isabel, and the two have excellent chemistry. I have watched this movie well over a hundred times since it came out (when I was only seven years old), and I enjoy it every time. The contrast of the cultures: Mexican American and typical Greenwich WASP, is amusing and heartening. The setting, the music, and the eternal optimism of a man in love makes this movie unforgettable. It's a unique story of chance and love. I fully recommend.

PLEASANT ENOUGH, BUT NOT VERY FUNNY OR ROMANTIC!
Added 7/31/2009
I'm sure most folks who really like this film are just big fans of the two leads. I enjoyed this film to a degree, but I can't remember laughing once or getting that "aw shucks" feeling either(this isn't such a bad thing!). The best moments in this film come when Perry meets Hayeks family, but overall this romantic comedy isn't all that romantic or comedic! It's been done a millions times before and if you like these types of films, there is no reason for you to miss this one either.

A wonderful movie!
Added 3/6/2009
This movie is over a decade old so it repeats a lot on TV, but I always end up catching only part of it. I decided to get this DVD so I can watch it from the very beginning. I'm glad I did. Two people from totally different background falling in love and dealing with issues that divide them. What a wonderful script! The dialogue moved. Great casting and great acting. I loved everything about this movie! I read one negative reviewer who said if you loved this movie, you must be 12-yrs old. Well, I'm 12-yrs many times over and I still love this movie! Is it realistic for condom to break and the girl to become pregnant? Why, yes! That's how I got pregnant with my daughter! That look on Matthew Perry's face when Salma Hayek told him that she was pregnant was exactly what my husband looked! And he thought I was just getting fat! This movie brought back a lot of memory. I loved it.

...WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD
Added 7/28/2002
This is a delightful romantic comedy. Matthew Perry is a charming, self-effacing leading man. Salma Hayek is a most fetching and winsome leading lady. Strong performances by the supporting cast help make this a most enjoyable movie.Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) lives in New York and has a high powered job as a field agent for a builder that specializes in the construction of night clubs. He is sent to Las Vegas to supervise new construction. While there, he meets a fiery, latin beaty, Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), with whom he has a very memorable one night stand. This is totally out of character for both of them. In fact, she is so embarrassed by what happened, that she sneaks out of his house first thing in the morning. Before he even knows it, she is gone, never to be heard from again, until she shows up on his door step three months later to announce that she is pregnant with his baby. Alex tells her that he supports her right to choose. Isabel chooses to have the baby. She asks nothing from him other than he meet her family, so that it is not such a shock when she announces that she is pregnant. He agrees to do so. He meets her traditional, Mexican-American family and is taken by their warmth, a quality that is sorely lacking in his family. He rarely sees his own family, except for the obligatory holidays, while Isabel meets hers once a week for dinner. Alex and Isabel fall in love and have a quickie marriage ceremony performed in Las Vegas. Naturally, as they are now husband and wife. they move in together. Then reality sets in. They contend with cultural difference, with pain in the you know what in-laws, and with the every day adjustments necessary, when living with someone one does not, as yet, know. Then, the trust that had developed is violated, and they each go their own separate ways. What happens with the baby? Does the marriage survive? Watch the movie and find out. The experience will be an enjoyable one
