Plot: Can a high-attitude African-American politician who says what he thinks stand a chance in a presidential campaign? Mays Gilliam (Chris Rock) is a straight-talking alderman representing a inner-city neighborhood in Washington, D.C. In the midst of a hard-fought race for the White House, the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates are killed in an airline crash, and with little time to prepare a new campaign, the Republican candidate, Vice President Brian Lewis (Nick Searcy), seems all but guaranteed to win. With practically nothing to loose, party head Martin Geller (Dylan Baker) approaches Gilliam and asks him to stand as the Democrat's presidential candidate. While Gilliam is dubious at first, before long his streetwise style and willingness to face the issues head-on earns him surprising figures in the polls, especially after he persuades his short-fused older brother, Mitch Gilliam (Bernie Mac), to join the ticket as vice presidential candidate -- a big jump for a bail bondsman. Gilliam's love life also becomes more complicated as his ex-girlfriend Kim (Robin Givens) decides she wants him back now that he has a shot at the White House, even though Gilliam only has eyes for Lisa (Tamala Jones). Head of State marked the directorial debut for comic and actor Chris Rock, who also co-wrote and co-produced the film. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Last night, I found out that Barack Obama is going to be our 44th President and the first African-American President! In honor of him winning, I decided to watch this movie! Chris Rock plays Mays Gilliam and is picked to run for Presidency against Vice President Brian Lewis. It starts off as a joke, But Mays takes it seriously, and soon, the whole United States does. Lewis becomes nervous because Gilliam is gaining more followers. Mays picks his brother, Mitch to be his Vice President. Will Mays become the President of the United States? If you love comedy and politics, you'll love HEAD OF STATE!!!

p.s. This is an important day in America because who would have thought that we would ever have an African-American President. GO OBAMA!!!

Pretty good movie for a first time director

Head Of State is a pretty funny movie from the not always funny Chris Rock. With history possibly getting ready to be made in Novemeber this film is a true testament of what goes on in poltics. With his directoral debut, Rock made an enjoyable fim.The ad campagins that Rock does towards his opponent had me in tears. Then when Berine Mac comes into the movie he steals it with every scene he's in. If you want a funny film then check this one out.

Worth watching in this 2008 election season
Added 7/28/2008

A mostly silly and shallow parable, the humor seemingly aimed at a lowest-common-denominator sort of viewing audience. And yet, in this season when there actually IS an African-American running for president, it is worth watching, for the occasionally funny gag, and for the sometimes startling, premonitory parallels with the reality we witness every day....
