Great Mindless Entertainment

Saw this movie years ago while in High School. It is still entertaining now and quite fun to see another Billy the Kid story. Emilio does an excellent job and the cash is filled with young stars who get into their roles with gusto.
There is quite a bit of violence and nobody says this is historically accurate beyond people's names, town names, and the era, but it is fun to watch and the movie seems to just fly by.

Fantastic western with lots of great stars from the 80's.

With a cast of six great actors you know you can't go wrong. Estevez was powerful and a dead ringer for Billy the Kid. He was fast, furious and he takes you on a wild ride from the moment he hits the screen. His character didn't really sit still for a second and his sharp wit and devilish humor are masked well underneath his thirst for revenge and blood. Young Guns is probably one of the best and most entertaining western films I've ever seen, O.K. so it's not exactly Unforgiven but it manages to be a very enjoyable film. Emilio plays the role of Billy The Kid very well in my opinion and even if it may not be historically correct this makes the film more enjoyable with a great cast and storyline, these superbly written scenes are delivered by a perfect cast with exceptional acting from Emilio Estevez and Lou Diamond Phillips in particular. You either like it or you don't but overall it is a modern western film which you can watch time and time again and still enjoy the comedy side of it and the great gunfights.
The film was about a British ranch owner named John Tunstall (Terence Stamp) who hires six young men to help him tend and guard his ranch. In addition he also teaches them to read and to be civilized, but soon Tunstall is murdered by a corrupt and ruthless competing cattle rancher named Murphy played brilliantly by Jack Palance. After the killing of Tunstall by Murphy's henchmen, the Regulators and Billy hit on all cylinders in extracting revenge for the slaughter of their benefactor. The Regulators are branded as outlaws and the "legal forces" of Murphy attempt to pare them down to nothing. This leads to a final shootout on the streets of Lincoln County and very few of the original Regulators escape, which leads to the equally brilliant follow up Young Guns II.
The cast of young and upcoming Hollywood stars include Emilio Estevez as Billy, Kiefer Sutherland as Doc the smartest and most responsible member of the group, Charlie Sheen as Dick, Lou Diamond Phillips as the spiritual leader of the group and my second favorite character in the film Chavez, Casey Siemaszko as the innocent and more childlike Charlie, and Dermot Mulroney. The six 'young guns' go seeking revenge and are erroneously branded outlaws by the law until they can clear their names. The film had some odd music in the background and was slightly cheesy, they used an 80's synthesizer style rock theme instead of the regular western style music. It wasn't exactly that good and it was probably the only flaw I could find in the film but it's not distracting and besides the film was still fantastic, it was littered with action, gunfights and wise cracks and finishes off with an "against impossible odds" gunfight that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats and entertained all the way through.
"I could've killed you, Dick. I could've killed you, but I don't want to kill you. I want to eat" ;-)............

Warning: This film's blu-ray video transfer is critically flawed!
Somehow this film got past Lionsgate's quality control. It suffers from "jaggies," resolution issues and other HD mastering artifacts. The disc is nearly unwatchable and looks far worse than the most recent DVD versions, even without up-scaling.
Do not take my word on this, please google the issue.
I really enjoy this movie, as it takes me back to my youth and all those great brat-pack films. Which is why the Blu-ray version of this film was such an incredible disappointment. Stick to the DVD version until these issues are resolved.

Awesome DVD!

Young Guns II is a great DVD for anyone (even if you don't necessarily like westerns). It is not your typical western movie. If you like Emilio Estevez, you will enjoy this movie!

This is just an entertaining, put your mind in neutral, and enjoy the Jon Bon Jovi soundtrack movie. I enjoyed the first movie a great deal and felt the laughs, action, and setting was quite fun. The second installment is also a decent addition and fills the entertainment purpose.
