I am pleased and happy that I purchased The 3rd and final movie of The Wilderness Family. It was very well done and just as entertaining as the first and second movie. My favorite was the 2nd episode mostly because I love snow scenes and this one had many. I would have loved to see them carry out the beautiful music of the first two movies but other than that the movie was great. I will watch these over and over. I personally did not see anything about Boomer in this last movie that would make me question his integrity. I am so glad that I listened to the last review and believed it. Take a chance and get this movie. It will complete this beautiful story line for you.

Another Great Family Film
Added 3/18/2007

Despite what other opinions you might have read here on Amazon.com, I've been writing reviews for a while now and I think this is one of the all time best Family film ever made. This picture hit movie theaters in November 1979 and all of the Robinson gang is back to visit you again in this the final film of the Robinson adventures. After surviving one of the harshest winters ever in the Colorado Rocky Mountains now the Robinson face there greatest challenge of, the bureaucracy of the United States Forest Service. Set against the beautiful wilderness background that only nature can create, the entire family has to stand firm in their quest to keep there ***** ******** ****. The picture opens with a shot of the beautiful flowers in a meadow along with a beautiful fawn running in the wilderness. Toby wants to race Jen back to the house even though he always looses. As Skip and the gorgeous Pat try to push a stump over, a forest ranger in a helicopter flies over the old Jake claims. After everyone has a hand in pushing the stump over, the bear cubs get into Pat laundry again and pull the clothes line down sending the clean clothes across the ground. While the family gets the ground ready for its spring and summer garden, Samson that big old loveable Brown Bear decides he wants to get involved also. However, Pat lays down the law and orders Samson out and to stay out. Later and airplane gets set to land on the river and its Mike who drops in on the family to bring them there mail and much needed supplies. The next day the same helicopter from the Forest Service decides this time, he's going to pay the Robinsons a visit. Brooks tells the Skip that he may have a problem because the land that he's on is a mining claim and not a vegetable garden. Brooks tells Skip that he hopes he's filed all the proper papers and that there's nothing wrong with his claim. As the family sits down to eat breakfast they hear a ruckus coming from the valley. When the family goes to investigate the fine that Boomer has come to visit. However, Boomers first visitor is Samson who Boomer doesn't get along to well with. Samson visit causes Boomer to lose all the chickens that he brought to Pat as a gift along with the goat. Pat asks Boomer if he wants to stay for breakfast and Boomer would like to but he has to keep going. However, when Skips as him to stay Boomer stays because that's a voice of a different matter. Skip tells Boomer about the Forest Service and Boomer thinks that the only reason he's coming around is to make sure that Skip and Pat are using the ground properly. After Boomer stays for a while, he decides he needs to get going if he's going to get any mining down. However, things get worst after a bad thunderstorm pat decides that she's going to leave for awhile. Pat is worried about her mother who's ill and wants to go back to Los Angeles. When Skip says we'll go Pat decides that she needs to go by herself. Will Pat comeback from the city life and will they loose there home or even leave if Pat doesn't come Home? I love this movie and I think this one was the best of the three. Some of the scenery that the picture had in it you won't see any where else. The shot of the wild mustangs running along the river was just gorgeous. Where else can you go and see a site like that? No where around Pittsburgh that's for sure. The view of the valley and the mountains behind it where the family celebrates the Fourth of July was just breath taking. Even the shot of the thunderstorm as it was coming across the mountains was beautiful also. The scanning views of the mountain and the valleys that were taking during the entire movie were outstanding. As far as the stars go, they couldn't get any better. However, the beauty of Susan Damante Shaw who plays the part of Skip's wife Pat is all-together something else. Her beauty in this movie is breath taking to say the least. No one could fill the overhauls and jeans the way Susan did in this movie. I don't understand why she wasn't given more parts in other movies because she an excellent actress. If you're a parent and want a movie that will entertain the entire family this is it. Therefore, because of the beauty that this movie capture of the Colorado Rocky Mountains along with the beauty of Susan Damante Shaw I give this picture 10 weasels stars.

LAME! LAME! LAME!
Added 9/2/2004

I don't know if I have ever even used the word "lame" before lol, but that just happens to be the first of several negative terms I could use to describe this movie. Now I think I am fully qualified to pass that judgment seeing as how I own all three of the movies in this collection. Wilderness Family 1 & 2, as well as this 3rd one. We grew up on the first and second ones and loved them. It was a unanimous decision that the first was much better than the second but it was still fun to have the second one (which has a different actor as the daughter from the first one). We never knew that there was a third movie in the trilogy until recently and were SO excited to watch it. It is not however anything like the first two.

The filming is more current which means you don't get the "you can tell it was made in the 80's from the second that you press play" vibe. However, the soundtrack RUINS any possible positives that the better filming could bring to the story. The music is WRETCHED and the dialog is pathetic. Seriously makes you want to slit your wrists and smash the TV. They got the most pathetic, sappy, out of place, LONG songs that they could have ever found to go with this one. (Think.....Dianna Ross and the Supremes as the music for a solid 5 minutes of watching Toby and Jen run in slow motion through fields). Boomer is in much more of this one than he was in the first two, and he comes across more as a dirty old man than a sweet family friend. Pat is twice as whiny as she was in the second one, which makes it really irritating to watch. She acts like a child most of the time. You get A LOT more "SKIIIIIIIP! What are we gonna dooooooo!?!?" `s in this one. More of her falling apart because she just can't take it up there anymore etc.

OK, storyline: A nasty government official is trying to kick them off the land. They refuse to leave, after a threat of "we'll see who wins!" type, the government man's helicopter takes off and then explodes and crashes to the ground. So the family puts out the fire and tends after the bruised and battered government man who comes to love the family and eventually lets them stay. For the most part, there are more "natural disasters" than animal encounters but they still try to include a few. We experience a flash flood, lighting storm, Toby stuck on a cliff, LOTS of running and playing to sappy pull your hair out music, a really funny fight between Crest (the dog) and a tiny little bobcat, which they try to make out to be ferocious, a few more "slow motion happy scenes" which include the family hanging out naked in a man made hot tub and a lovely little slow motion "4th of July stroll down the river. I could keep going but I'll let you judge.

Now, as much as I did NOT like this and never care to watch it again, my kids haven't seen it yet so as soon as they do, I will give you an opinion from a kid's perspective. J But so far, my opinion, your kids will love the first one, the second will be ok, and this third one will bore them to tears. Hope this helps!
