Plot: Two emotionally scarred young people find both love and tragedy as they run away together in this drama. Marcy (Robin Tunney) and Seth (Henry Thomas) meet while shoplifting at the same department store; Seth is the son of an angry, abusive father and steals out of rebellion, while Marcy suffers from Tourette's Syndrome, which causes her to compulsively curse, flail about, and indulge in anti-social behavior. The two misfits find a common ground in each other, and they decide to hit the road. Marcy has always wanted a black You Do The Hairdo Barbie doll head, and they drive off to Toronto to find one. However, when a pharmacy along the way refuses to refill Marcy's prescription for her Tourette's medication, she and Seth decide to rob the drugstore, and Seth is shot by the pharmacist. An aging tow truck driver named Walter (Michael Parks) shows mercy on them, but his hospitality proves short-lived thanks to Marcy's increasingly violent outbursts. Robin Tunney's performance in Niagara Niagara earned her the prize as Best Actress at the 1997 Venice Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Heartbreaking, beautiful, and timeless

This is one of the very best modern movies. Though it is a good deal more serious, it is certainly on par with such movies as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Punch-Drunk Love. The one problem I have is that IT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED ON DVD YET. How the suits could pass over such a stupendous work of art is beyond me, though not surprising. This movie will help you understand a certain illness better than you ever have (or even possibly ever could), and it will break your heart with its frank portrayal of a doomed and short-lived love affair. A movie you couldn't possibly forget, this will make your life deeper. Now we just NEED IT ON DVD!

I Love This Movie And It's Actors, But What A Shame It Is Never Available In The U.S. I Hate That About Our Country. We Have Such A Gem And We Share With The Rest Of The World,But Raise The Prices On Our Own People Or Make It Unavailable. Nevermind The Price Gouge Because I Would Pay Anywhere From 50 To 100 Dollars For The Movie. I Love It That Much. It Is A Shame That We Can't Enjoy Great Art In America. This Is Why I Rate An Otherwise Great Movie So Poorly.

One of the GREATEST movies!
Added 12/28/2007

This is honestly one of the greatest movies ever made. I'll admit, there's not a lot of "excitement" but its a very nice story and very well produced. I highly recommend everyone to check out this movie at least once!

Not sure what I thought of this movie

I appreciate the last poster's comment that Marcy suffered from other disorders besides Tourette's. That was the main problem I had with the movie- she portrayed the Tourette's part quite well but some of the behavior was so NOT Tourette's and I didn't feel that the movie even tried to clarify that. I'm sure many people walk away from this film thinking that people with TS have no control over themselves and that they are dangerous to others. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I never quite understood what Henry Thomas's character's story was, either. I absolutely loved the old man, though. But what was with the letter to him at the end?

I'm not sure whether I recommend this movie or not. There are many other movies out there that portray TS as well or better than this one does, without misleading behaviors thrown in. The Tic Code, Maze, and Dirty Filthy Love are some good ones to see.

Beautiful but not a happy film

This movie is filled with pain, love and real emotion. It is not a happy ending movie, but is great nonetheless. Robin Tunney's acting is incredible.
