Plot: This thriller takes place in Blue Bay, Florida, where social-climbing guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is indifferent to teen-socialite Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards), who retaliates by accusing him of rape, an accusation that leads to his suspension by the school and a rejection from the country club. He can't afford a big attorney, so he hires shrewd Ken Bowden (Bill Murray), while Kelly's mom, Sandra Van Ryan (Theresa Russell), Sam's former lover, gets a platoon of top lawyers. Trailer-trash Suzie Toller (Neve Campbell) backs up Kelly's claim and additional plot twists and turns develop. The seldom-seen Carrie Snodgrass (Diary of a Mad Housewife) has a supporting role in this film. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

Good Movie, Good Blu Ray

I'm a big fan of this movie. It has a certain "feel" and atmosphere throughout that is highly appealing to me, lots of shots in the everglades, along a beach/shore..I like that. The who-dun-it part is pretty cool too. The Blu Ray is worth buying; I upgraded from the SD version and was pleasantly surprised.

Wild Things (1998) Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Denise Richards

As campy as a John Waters film and as trashy as a Roger Miller song, Wild Things is set in "South Florida" and the film crew has immense fun with ground level views of gators, snakes & other swampy state natives. But, alas, in the end this movie falls into my most commonly used category of "it should have been better than it was".

The plot is your standard "things are not always what they seem" theme and that is usually what makes for a good thriller or mystery. And while they do load you up with lots of plot twists & turns ... they pretty much over do it and eventually your interest in how the characters are interconnected wanes.

This is what can hurt a movie the most.

When the characters loose their 3-D quality and become flat, 1-D paper cut-out figures, it is hard to connect or identify with them as they go through the motions, no matter how many curveballs they throw at 'cha.

With a great cast and wonderful movie locations what really ruined it for me was all the lesbian kissing & fondling scenes.

Beats "Basic Instinct" by a mile

This is the best "camp" erotic film in the past quarter century, hands down. Not only is it a guilty pleasure for viewers of lesbian acts, but it also shows Kevin Bacons acting skills, which aren't the highest to begin with (he was also the Executive Producer), which probably explains why we get a gratuitous shot of his penis.
I think the true shinning point of the film, is Bill Murray's off-script banter as Matt Dillons laywer. How they got him into this blatant flesh romp is a total wonderment to myself, but without him, I'd be laughing for ALL the wrong reasons.
If you're looking for beautiful scenery of both Florida, and the nakedness of Denise Richards and a rather good looking for her age Theresa Russell, then you will never miss with this over-the-top indulgence in camp film making history.
A true gem that beats "Basic Instinct"...hands down!

I really liked Wild Things the story is good. So when they re-released this on blu-ray I of course picked it up.
Its has really good picture quality. If you liked this movie but never bought it the blu-ray version is the way to go.
