Plot: Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman) directed this comedy about two hapless explorers -- hard-drinking trapper Bartholomew Hunt (the late Chris Farley in his last major role) and foppish Leslie Edwards (Matthew Perry) -- who lead an ill-fated 1804 expedition through the Pacific Northwest in a hopeless, doomed effort to reach the Pacific Ocean before Lewis and Clark. Others joining their trek are French linguist Guy Fontenot (Eugene Levy), who is unable to decipher dialects of any Native American tribes; Spanish conquistador Hidalgo (Kevin Dunn), who seeks the Fountain of Youth; Fontenot's Indian mistress Shaquinna (Lisa Barbuscia); Bidwell (David Packer), who keeps losing parts of his body; oddball Pratt (Hamilton Camp); and Edwards' manservant Jonah (Bokeem Woodbine). Filmed on location in Northern California and the Big Bear region. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

Silly but great

Even though it was chris farley's last movie, and nothing substantial, it was still a great flick with plenty of laughs and full of a lot of actors. Great onscreen chemistry with him and mathew perry.

Comedy In The 1880's!!!

I always thought that this was a very funny movie. It makes fun of historical events. Leslie Edwards and Bartholomew Hunt and others try to beat Lewis and Clark to the Pacific. A lot of hilarious things happen, like Chris Farley trying to get the egg of an Eagle for his friend, before he dies. Chris gets hungry and cooks the egg, then he has to go up the tree again. This was Chris Farley's last movie, and it is one of his best movies! If you love comedy, and Chris Farley, you'll love ALMOST HEROES!!!

Pathetic

How can a Christopher Guest movie be this pathetic? There isn't a laugh, not even a smile. It's crude enough to attract a few teenies, but how about something amusing for those with intelligence?

A real treasure

This movie is one of my absolute favorite movies. It is one of those movies you can watch over and over again. This movie stars Chris Farley and Matthew Perry who, it turns out, make a hilarious comic duo. The movie is about two men and their crew who try to beat Lewis and Clark to the pacific ocean. The cast in this movie is great. I have seen this movie well over a dozen times and it still continues to make me laugh every time. If you are a fan of any of Chris Farley's movies you are bound to like this as well. The humor in it is kind of simple with a hint of wit here and there. If you are however looking for a serious intellectual comedy, to be honest this isn't really it. This is a fun enjoyable adventure with some crud humor but warm none the less. I recommend this movie to everyone though I realize that some will not appreciate the comedy of this gem.
