Plot: Something nefarious is afloat in the depths of Bikini Bottom: King Neptune's crown has been stolen, and the prime suspect is Mr. Krabs, SpongeBob's boss at Mr. Krabs' Krabby Patties. Despite the overwhelming evidence against Mr. Krabs -- not to mention having been turned down for a long-awaited promotion at the restaurant -- SpongeBob (voice of Tom Kenny) refuses to believe that his boss is responsible and teams up with his best friend, Patrick (voice of Bill Fagerbakke), on a mission to Shell City, where he hopes he can exonerate Mr. Krabs and return the crown to its rightful owner. Of course, this is no easy task; once outside the safety of Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob is faced with the overwhelming dangers of the sea, not the least of which being a cyclops that many believe to be responsible for the deaths of countless other unfortunate sea-creatures who ventured outside county lines. Among those who lent their vocal chords to the film include Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, and Alec Baldwin. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

2004 Spongebob movie on DVD.

The humor is not as sophisticated as some of the adult cartoons that are on the air now, so perhaps, Spongebob is more suited to a younger audience. There was a lot of movement in the animation, making it a little more action orientated as well.

Not worthy

I'll admit it: I'm a Spongebob junkie. I've seen almost all of the episodes, multiple times. I saw this movie when it came out in theatres with a fellow Spongebob freak. Gosh, we were like 15 and we did not even care.

That being said, I did not care for this movie. The writers make great 12-minute episodes, but apparently nothing good comes from trying to make longer plots. It also has some disturbing parts for younger kids, so I don't even let my niece watch it when it comes on TV. She's a big fan of the episodes as well.

All in all, stick with the original shows.
