Plot: A frustrated writer helps save a woman being railroaded by the law -- or is she? -- in this comic mystery with romantic overtones. Phil Blackwood (Tom Selleck) is a best-selling mystery novelist who has run into a bad case of writer's block. Hoping to find inspiration for his next book, Phil goes to the city courthouse and witnesses the arraignment of Nina Ionescu (Paulina Porizkova), a beautiful Romanian immigrant who is accused of killing a man with a pair of scissors. For Phil, it's love at first sight, and after sneaking into jail disguised as a priest, he makes her an offer. Phil offers to let her stay at his house, and he provides her with an alibi -- she can claim that she couldn't have committed the crime, because she was with him at the time of the attack. Nina agrees, but after Phil encounters a handful of dangerous foreign agents, Nina's acrobatic parents, and a highly suspicious district attorney, he begins to wonder if Nina might have committed the murder after all. Her Alibi also features William Daniels as Sam, and James Farentino as Frank Polito; the song Falling In Love was written and recorded for the film by Randy Newman. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

GREAT MOVIE!

This is a romantic comedy, reminds me of a time where life was simpler... No especial effects... This movie is all about Tom Selleck's acting delivery! A MUST SEE!

Received well ahead of scheduled date but would have preferred a standard blank case instead of an oversized case. Played well!

Tom Seleck is a favorite actor of ours. Very few movies do we re watch but this is one. It is too funny and it's always the same. We've viewed it for fourteen years and we've just now purchased it for our own movie library. A good laugh has healing values, so instead of aspirin get this movie. You'll be happy you did.

It is Per ... Per ... Predictable
Added 6/20/2008

Tom Selleck spent all his years after Magnum P.I. playing the same everyman role, but he plays it well probably because he really is everyman. This was a cute, light hearted romantic comedy that slid by most movie goers and critics, barely making a blip on the radar. Still, it was a nice bit of fluff just to spend a weekend with.

Tom Selleck plays a mystery writer, Phil, who is in a rut. He hasn't had a best seller in years because he's suffering from writer's block. Trying to find some inspiration, he sits in with a flock of elderly people watchers (courtroom groupies on Medicare, but still courtroom groupies), when he sees a beautiful woman named Nina come before the judge. She has been charged with murder, a mysterious stranger from Romania. In a moment of inspiration, Phil decides to provide a false alibi - saying that the two of them are having an affair and that she couldn't have killed the victim in question because she was with him when it happened. Phil takes Nina back to his Connecticut estate, living with the mysterious stranger who only the audience knows is being watched by some European thugs in the shadows. What will happen? Well, it's predictable.

There are some cute comedy moments, mostly in the dinner party scene and the physical comedy mishaps. Perhaps the funniest moments are the voice overs that Tom Selleck provides as he is writing his book in his mind, making him into the tough guy he hopes he is rather than that bumbling fool he is. Otherwise, it's just a cute story your average watcher won't read too much into.

Underrated

A fun and also exciting movie. Not a masterpiece but it has humour and drama mixed and most of all it brings a very nice feeling. One gets glad watching it. I liked it a lot. Cute.
They don't make films like this anymore. Not this type of films. Sadly.
