not a bad werewolf flick
Added 1/12/2004
This movie stands out among the Howling sequels as the only one with any quality to it. The others range from silly (Howling 3) to downright unwatchable (Howling 2). Although it has nothing to do with the original film, Howling 5 is both gripping and scary- rarities for late 80's B-grade horror flicks.

PHILIP HAMMONS REVIEW # 2
Added 9/10/2002
I've already reviewed this horror movie but I want to review it again. Howling V - The Rebirth is my favorite horror movie EVER!!! The soundtrack is very eerie and spooky, and the plot is great too. However, if the werewolf would have been shown just a little bit more and had the acting been a little more convincing, this film may have been a classic. This movie does seem to take its plot & story a lot more seriously than most films of its kind, but that's why I like it.

MY FAVORITE HORROR MOVIE!!!
Added 9/5/2002
This is my favorite horror movie ever!!! I am now 18 years old and I first saw this movie when I was atleast 7 years old, and as a result, it gave me nightmares for years!!! Even though the werewolf is slightly shown in the film, and despite the fact that some of the acting is cheesy, I STILL LOVE IT! I have always had a great imagination and this is the kind of horror movie that allows me to use my imagination to see the evil. The film is about a group of heirs that are taken to a Hungarian castle that has been shut down for 500 years------for a rather fun game of who's the werewolf! It's more of a whodunnit film that takes its story a lot more seriously than most werewolf films. And that's what I like about it! It's not for all tastes, but worth a look if you don't mind a serious horror movie with mystery and a lack of gore. Gore hounds will be disapointed. The film also has a very eerie soundtrack. The film may be boring to some, a delight to others. Rated R for violence, some language, and two scenes of female nudity.

Just another B-horror movie
Added 6/30/2002
In this sequel (which, like the other sequels, only have the title in common with "The Howling"), a group of people visit an old castle outside of Budapest, which has been abandoned for five hundred years. Soon, people start to disappear and someone says she saw a strange, big animal. Maybe there's some truth on the werewolf legends after all.....This is a typical "a group of people gather in a strange place and get killed one after the other while they try to figure out what's happening"-movie, and like many movies of its kind, it suffers from lack of any real plot, and has too many characters that you never really get to know. Especially in the beginning there are a number of scenes with lots of unimportant dialogue. The acting is like in most b-grade horror movies not very good. This movie is better than "Howling III", but not good as "The Howling" or "Howling IV" and not as funny as "Howling II". It's just another b-horror movie with nothing that will make you remember it. But if you've watched the four previous Howling-movies you might just as well watch this one as well.

Entertaining.
Added 5/1/2002
Enjoyable (1989) Howling entry. The title has nothing to do with the content of the film. The terror begins when a group of 'famous' people are gathered at a castle (in Hungary) that has been shut for ... 500 years. The opening scenes are well made, especially the bus ride... & the shots of the cemetery. The acting is average, the atmospheric set is great, the only let down is that the werewolf is only shown in shadows. Ok soundtrack. One of the best in the series.
