Plot: A teacher and his students open up new worlds for one another in this urban drama inspired by a true story. Pierre Dulaine (Antonio Banderas) is a prize-winning ballroom dancer and instructor from Manhattan who volunteers his services to a high school in one of the roughest neighborhoods in the Bronx. Principal Augustine James (Alfre Woodard) in turn gives Dulaine a tough assignment -- a detention class with some of the biggest troublemakers on campus. When the kids learn that Dulaine intends to teach them how to dance in the classic style, they're incredulous at best and dismissive at worst -- until Dulaine demonstrates his moves for the class. While Dulaine's charges -- including Rock (Rob Brown), LaRhette (Yaya DaCosta), Ramos (Dante Basco), Eddie (Marcus T. Paulk), and Sasha (Jenna Dewan) -- respect his talent, they have their own way of dancing, and as they mix hip-hop moves with ballroom discipline, they create an exciting new style. Dulaine also strives to instill self-confidence and a work ethic in his kids, insisting they can make their way out of the ghetto if they're willing to try. Screenwriter Dianne Houston based Take the Lead on the real-life story of Pierre Dulaine, who taught dance as a volunteer to at-risk students at New York elementary schools. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Dancing with Stars meet Antonio B
Added 11/17/2009

I really enjoyed the fact that this was based on a true story. I would have liked a little more romantic connection for A.B. However if you love dancing and love A.B.- you will be satisfied

Indeed, as Louise Keller, [...], "A feel - good story using music and dance...Take the Lead is entertaining. Antonio Banderas charms...and a vital young cast ispires with passionate performance". From a slightly different angle, Rob Lowing, The Sun - Herald said, "Thanks to one sizzling tango and the up-beat confidence of a well-directed dance-a-drama...should put most adults and older teenahgers in a great mood". And finally, Rob Brown and Allre Wooddard summarise the movie as follows: "Full of electrifying energy, raw spirit and sizzling dance moves, this inspirational films stars Antonio Banderas as a ballroom dance teacher who takes his classical training to an inner-city school and gives the students SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN-THEMSELVES".

Loved This Movie-Great Guide For Youth On Respect Of Others
Added 9/11/2009

I bought this movie for the underlining theme of respect for one another no matter who you are or what your situation is at the time. We should all care for one another and teach our children to respect their selves first-then others-you have to love who you are before you can love another-which requires forgiveness-Forgiveness is also taught in this movie-ART IS FOR EVERYONE-IT ENRICHES OUR LIVES! THANKS FOR OFFERING THIS GREAT MOVIE!
