Plot: According to local legend, the ghosts of tortured slaves still haunt New Orleans' Lalaurie House. For The St. Francisville Experiment, a paranormal researcher, a self-proclaimed psychic, a Louisiana historian, and a filmmaker were given digital video cameras for one night in the house to document whatever they saw. Prior to the film's release, Trimark Pictures declined to release the names of the filmmaker and the participants or to clarify whether the film was a documentary or a fiction in the guise of a documentary, like The Blair Witch Project. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I think this movie was a little faked. The other reviews on this site are accurate.

I spent the night in the Myrtle's Plantation last year with my partner. I woke up at 3am because I heard footsteps in the hallway outside the door to the upstairs bedroom where we were sleeping. When I went to the window overlooking the courtyard, standing there I felt someone grab my shoulder. I spun around thinking it was my partner trying to scare me, but no one was there and he was sound asleep. He woke up and turned on the light and asked me what happened to my shoulder. I looked in the mirror and there was the perfect outline of a handprint where I felt someone grab me. I later learned that a wounded Confederate soldier had died in that very same bedroom and other people had had similar experiences. The family graveyard for the plantation was paved over to make the parking lot and that seemed to make the disturbances increase. It's a very spooky place to stay and I recommend it for anyone looking for that kind of fun!

Entertaining in a Ghost Hunters Kind of Way
Added 8/28/2009

This movie was essentially a fictionalized version of an episode of Ghost Hunters, and it was ok at that (I'm a big fan of Ghost Hunters, so perhaps I'm overly lenient). The story was very basic; a team of ghost hunters decide to explore the alleged hauntings of a home, only to find that there are in fact some nasty ones there. If I could, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars, not 3, but it was an ok experience. Obviously low budget, but the acting wasn't ridiculously bad. The story was ok, and decently built to a few scary moments. Good for a rental if you're in the mood for this type of story.

A good Blair copycat
Added 2/10/2009

I consider myself a bit of an expert on these sorts of movies which i'll refer to as simply Blair Witch copycats. This movie, is among the best. The acting isn't as good as blair, nor is the story... But the house is creepy and the movie delivers a few chills, which is really what its all about right? In any case, if you desire to see another movie in the same vein as Blair Witch Project then this movie should be near the top of your list.

Sometimes Low-Budget Cheese isn't so bad
Added 2/23/2008

For such a low-budget, cheesey movie, St. Francisville Experiment actually packs a few thrills. It's slow going at the beginning, and it's a real toss-up as to who is the most annoying character (although Madison really tries hard to earn that title). But if you can sit through it without falling asleep, you will be rewarded with a few honst to goodness scares.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT'S WHAT YOU DON'T SEE!!!

this movie is one of my favorites. it'll spook the crap out of you. believe me you'll be watching your back, and think twice whenever the hair on your neck stands on end. true or not there are such things out there, and you don't have to see them to believe. i recommend this it is a good film, and you will enjoy it. it has enough scares to make you look around and be afraid even if it's for just a short while.
