Plot: Dreamworks SKG's second feature-length animated film blends comedy and drama in an unusual historical adventure. Two genial swindlers working as stable hands stow away with Cortez, the legendary Spanish conquistador, as he searches for El Dorado, the lost City of Gold. Luck smiles on the two con men, and they happen to find a settlement in Mexico that they believe is El Dorado; however, while the two exotic strangers are at first embraced by the Mayan people, they've also arrived just in time to be offered up as the next human sacrifice. The Road to El Dorado was directed by Don Paul, who helmed the first DreamWorks animated feature, The Prince of Egypt; Will Finn, a featured animator on Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin; Bibo Bergeron, who worked on Ferngully: The Last Rainforest; and David Silverman. It features new songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, and the voice cast includes Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh, Rosie Perez, Edward James Olmos, and Armand Assante. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

What a delightful surprise. As a parent of a young one, I am always looking for something my little one will really enjoy, that is also child friendly and at least semi engaging for me the parent, (since if the little one likes it, it will be played often). If there is a Super Walmart near you, you might be familiar with their $5 Movie bid. I kept seeing this movie in that $5 movie bin but based on some negative reviews, I figured it was not worth it. After months of looking at it, I reconsidered, its just $5 dollars. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid $20 dollars for it, the DVD has gotten that much use - its been worth it.

What is good - characters, dialogue is funny, very colorful, and some nice original music.

It is not an historical or cultural piece, but neither was it intended to be. I wish your little one enjoys it as much as mine has. God Bless You and your Family.

This is an incredibly fun movie and has been a family favorite since its release. We were replacing our original copy.

Like many good animated films - the humor is at many levels so that all ages can enjoy it.

The Road to El Dorado is one hour and twenty-nine minutes long and was released on March 31, 2000. It tells the story of two con artists Tulio (voiced by Kevin Kline) and Miguel (voiced by Kenneth Branagh) who are using fixed dice to win money. The two also win a map that tells where the city of El Dorado. El Dorado is a city of gold. The people find out that they are using fixed dice. They two flee for their lives and wind up unintentionally on a boat to the new world. Tulio and Miguel are caught and thrown in the bridge. The two escape with Cortés' horse, Altivo. The three of them wash ashore in the new world and the adventure begins. Tulio, Miguel, and Altivo arrive\find El Dorado with the help of their new friend Chel (voice by Rosie Perez). Chel show Tulio and Miguel how to survive in El Dorado pretend to be gods. There is more to this film but I am too lazy to tell the whole story. The movie mixes art and computer animation together. The Road to El Dorado is a great movie to watch and I am giving it an AAA+++.
