Plot: Judy Canova continues to bring home the box-office bacon for Republic Pictures in Oklahoma Annie. Judy plays Judy, Queen of the Cowgirls, a backwoods shopkeeper who falls in love with new sheriff Dan Fraser (John Russell). In order to stay in close proximity with the handsome lawkeeper, Judy performs an act of courage which earns her a deputy's badge. Working together, Judy and Dan do their best to rid their community of corrupt politicians, beginning with their assault on a local gambling den. When Dan is kidnapped by the bad guys, Judy rallies all the womenfolk in town and heads to the rescue. Even nonfans of Judy Canova will enjoy this rambunctious musical comedy, with the star functioning full-force on all eight cylinders. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

judy is at her top form with john russell in this romp. not only was she the top star at republic pictures she also starred on broadway and had a saturday night radio show on the networks for 16 years in competition with such greats as fibber magee and molly, the great gildersleeve, amos and andy, burns and allen, to name a few, and she always held up high ratings be it films or radio. this film along with lay that rifle down are worth it at any price. besides untill her untimely death in 1983 she was my daughters god mother and my dearest friend.

Judy Canova was a very funny lady and made for this type of role. It brings back to mind sitting in the theater on a saturday morning and just enjoying a beautiful moving techicolor moving image while munching on popcorn. Our parents would go to the movies on saturday night, but the day time was all ours. Judy and Roy were our heros and even though we knew it was not real we welcomed the chance to escape with these kind of movies and we would not have had it any other way.
