Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino star in this tragic study of an American gangster whose hard-boiled persona finds itself at war with his compassionate side—a side that ultimately will be his downfall.
In his first starring role, future Oscar-winner Bogart (Casablanca, The African Queen) plays Roy “Mad Dog” Earle, an escaped convict who is on the run.
With police and the press on his trail, Earle takes refugee among the peaks of the Sierra Madres.
Co-starring Ida Lupino, multiple Oscar-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Arthur Kennedy and Oscar-nominee Henry Travers, High Sierra was written by legendary Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner John Huston and directed by Raoul Walsh.
