Description: How would we spend our final hours on Earth? And what does how we choose to die say about how we have chosen to live? In the inimitable Abel Ferrara's (GO GO TALES, KING OF NEW YORK) new film, this thought experiment takes on a visceral immediacy. With the planet on the verge of extinction, a New York couple, (Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe and Shanyn Leigh), cycles through moments of anxiety, ecstacy and torpor. As they sink into the havens of sex and art, and Skype last goodbyes in a Lower East Side apartment filled with screens bearing tidings of doom and salvation, 4:44: LAST DAYS ON EARTH becomes one of Ferrara's most potent and intimate expressions of spiritual crisis. The first fiction feature of Ferrara's to be filmed entirely in New York in over a decade, 4:44 is a mournful valentine to his beloved city.

Film: Random Roles: Willem Dafoe

The actor: It’s a tribute to the breadth and diversity of Willem Dafoe ’s career that there’s no way to settle on a signature role. To some, he might be Spider-Man ’s Green Goblin, to others, the flamboyant FBI agent from The Boondock Saints , or Platoon ’s fragged Sgt. Elias. Beginning his career with the avant-garde theater of the Wooster Group, Dafoe has carved out a mainstream career while fostering relationships with experimental directors like Wim Wenders and Lars Von Trier. Two new movies, The Hunter and 4:44 Last Day On Earth , show the range of Dafoe ...

Rehashing old arguments in the hours before certain death is a tedious waste of time - theirs, and ours.

Ferrara movingly celebrates connection, cooking life down to just its barest essence: a man, a woman and a need.

Ferrara's thin idea for a movie - life goes on, even when it's about to stop - would have been a lot better had he given his characters more to do.
