not what i expected
Added 3/18/2010

Definately not what I expected. C'mon, a Native American martial arts expert? Not to mention all the other martial arts scenes in the movie. I bought the directors cut and it seems there's 40 more minutes of footage on disc 2. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I see there's even a 3 disc version! What more could they possibly add?

Action movie women will love

Two dashing, mysterious heroes, a couple of beautiful heroines, French scenery and a fantastic monster you end up pitying make this an unforgettable action/fantasy/romance/bromance film.

Who would think the French could do a movie like this?

Great movie, interesting characters and excellent fight sequences. I first saw it in the theater some years ago, then bought the original release DVD and the extended version.

Mark Dacascos does a great job as the Indian companion to SamuelLeBihan (Fronsac).
The movie has the full-spectrum of what you would want, great blood and guts action, a unique sci-fi beast/villian, great period costumes and settings, and an excellent surprising brothel scene with some beautiful women.

Be warned, watch the movie in subtitles. But if you dare to watch the English dubbed version, this movie instantly turns into a comedy!! The dubbing is so bad it's hillarious!! Fronsac's voice sounds like he has a frog in his throat and the dialogue when he meets his love interest is side-splitting! Also the scence when he is in the brothel with Monicca Belucci is a good one too. You will literally die of laughter of the way the voice is done- overly breathy and riduculous dialogue.

Enjoy!!

Couldn't believe it was in French

I saw this in the theaters, not knowing it was a foreign film. Even tho it had been 20 years since my last French class, I was so drawn into the story I didn't notice the difference, and barely glanced at the subtitles. Proof to me of it's excellence.
