Good family movie.

This was a good movie. I bought it mostly cause is about teenagers geting interested in helping wild life, and standing up for the helpless. Some of the details in this movie, like what the teen decided to do to help discourage the dogs with snakes, the snakes could eventually eat the owls too, but that was very minor. Great, clean movie with cute little owls and my daughter enjoyd the cute boys as well, she is a teen also, so no surprise there.
I would recomend this movie to everybody.

I can't believe I missed this movie coming out!?!? What an underrated and underpublicized gem. I got it yesterday as a fluke, just to check out, with no expectations and it's wonderful.

My son is 8 and now enjoys movies about kids who are a little older than him. In this movie they're in jr. high and have the usual issues with bullies, being the new kid in town, etc., but it's delivered in a refreshing way. The young actors are good, the scenery is gorgeous and the music is pleasant (Jimmy Buffet provides original songs).

I was impressed with the directing and storytelling of the movie and the cinematography. Luke Wilson plays a cop who is comic relief, but he never mugs or goes slapstick. The comedy is more subtle and sophisticated. Very impressive.

The plot is interesting and has some fun twists as well as a moral about saving nature without hitting you over the head with it. Overall, adorable and engaging. I'm sure I will have to watch a million times and it's a welcomed task. Enjoy!

Hoot (DVD)

Used this DVD with students who read Hiaasen's book at school. We liked the script-to-video feature with scene by scene transcription for comparing the book to the movie. The actors portrayed the great characters well. Very funny and fairly true to the book.

fun time

I worked for over 30 years with abused, neglected and disfuncitonal children. It was fun to watch a movie about kids that, although not perfect (but who is?) did positive things even if they did do a little bit of distruction. Revolutions are not clean...ever.
