Good movie - awful quality
Added 3/6/2010

This is pretty much an echo of all the others..but MAYBE it will make a difference. How dare they take a "old forgotten classic" (YES - I really liked this movie!) and give it such a poor quality audio & video & full frame. Guess I am so upset, because I anxiously awaited the DVD for many years... only to be treated to such garbage quality by today's standards. This is 2010 guys. You can do better!

Shockingly Bad DVD Release
Added 8/18/2009

This long awaited DVD release of the beloved 80's flick is a shockingly shoddy affair. It is quite literally an old vhs tape dubbed onto a DVD, even the old Vector Home Video lead is left on. The picture quality is horrible, and the film is presented in its VHS pan and scan state. I quite literally could have taken my old VHS tape and made the same thing with a DVD recorder. I highly suggest you do the same before wasting your money on this. The only reason that this release gets 1 star, is because of the on-screen trivia track, which means somebody at Lionsgate spent at least 2 hours working on this release.

Great little gem of a film...terrible DVD release
Added 6/29/2009

I have been waiting for this film on DVD for years; because of its non-existence on DVD I had even saved my old Vestron Video copy when I had gotten rid of the majority of my VHS collection many years ago. I was very excited to seen this film recently released on DVD by Lionsgate...until I watched it. This has got to be one of the worst transfers of a film to DVD that I have ever seen by a major distributor. Lionsgate should be totally and unequivocally ashamed to have put out such a shoddily produced DVD. The transfer is obviously taken from a VHS tape, in fact the original Vestron Video logo even appears before (and at the conclusion) of the film, just as on my original VHS tape from the 1980's. The picture is unbelievably dark in many places and the printers marks denoting reel changes are still present (another clue that this is in fact the VHS master, as these marks appear on the original Vestron copy). If this were a well-done transfer, it would have easily gotten five stars because the film is still one of the most underrated comedy/dramas from the 1980's. I hope that with all the negative reviews that this DVD has gotten that Lionsgate will see fit to give this film a more proper release on DVD. We can only hope.

Great movie, but the qualitiy is not so great.

I have always loved this film. I think Shelley Long, Ryan O'Neal, and Drew Barrymore all give excellent performances. I hadn't seen the film in years, although I did have it on VHS. When I heard it was coming to DVD, I was very excited.

I am tremendously disappointed in the quality though. The film is fullscreen, but I'm pretty sure that is not the original aspect ratio. Also, the picture quality seems pretty bad. I was tempted to try my VHS and see if the quality was better there -- after about 20 years deterioration.

If you love this movie, I'm sure you will buy it like I did. I am hoping though, that this movie gets a better release soon.

Irreconcilable Differences is a great movie with brilliant performances. I feel it has always been underrated, and it is kind of a slap in the face to get a release like this. It deserves better.
