One of the worst movies I have ever seen

This movie was a huge disappointment. I cannot believe so many people gave it favorable ratings. I only kept watching it since I was stuck on a plane. I found the "humor" painful, contrived and sophomoric. All the characters - with the exception of Amy Smart and the "hero's" only two - not surprisingly, really - friends, absolutely obnoxious and completely unlikable. How can everybody in this town (his little brother, his mother, her father, her various boyfriends, and so on) be SO repulsive??? This guy's problem had nothing to do with being fat and everything to do with being totally unappealing as a human being.

A classic comedy with a great cast! Reynolds and Farris are hilarious

Just Friends is a romantic comedy I missed when it came out in 2005, perhaps because I thought it was geared more towards teens and not adults. I watched it last weekend and loved it, laughing almost the entire way through. This isn't a great cinematic masterpiece by any means, but it succeeded in making me laugh, which is good enough for me.
The movie works because of the cast. Ryan Reynolds was a nerdy, fat kid in high school who was best friends with the beautiful Amy Smart. But, he wanted to be more than friends, and when he revealed his feelings, he was humiliated. He left town and became a successful music industry professional. One day, he gets the assignment of baby sitting spoiled pop star Anna Farris. Plane problems force them to land close to Reynold's home town.
He goes home, bringing Farris with him, and he encounters his long lost best friend. Much of the movie is predictable. She doesn't like him, he still acts stupid, she thinks he's a jerk, he acts like a jerk, another man tries to woo her. But the cast is hilarious. Anna Farris steals every scene she's in. She's great at playing crazy people. I also loved the slapstick in the movie. It brought a fun innoncence to the film.
I wish I'd seen this movie sooner. Reynolds is funny, Smart is beautiful, and Farris is flat out crazy.

Very Funny!

I just saw this movie on TV the other night and found it thoroughly enjoyable and hilarious! So much so that I just ordered it from amazon.com. Ryan Reynolds was awesome...very funny, wonderful actor! We watched him years ago in "Two Guys, A Girl, and A Pizza Place". Loved Chris Marquette (the little brother) and Anna Faris (the pop star)as well. They all had me in stitches. The interaction between those three characters was my favorite parts of the movie. Anna as the very self-indulgent and unstable pop star and Chris as the annoying little brother were great! This is a movie that I'll be watching over and over again.

Not so great

I think that Ryan Davis and Amy Smart make a great combination.
Bad news is that this movie stunk.
There were a few moments where I did laugh my butt off, but, overall, I kept waiting for the movie to be over.
Skip this one.
