Great movie - still not available in Japan
Added 1/31/2010

Accurate cultural references. Nicely crafted humor. Selleck is perfectly cast. It reminds me what I first found fascinating about Japan 17 years ago and why I've been here ever since. Sadly, this movie isn't and never has been available to buy on DVD in Japan. I can only think there's some copyright dispute that prevents its release. Whatever the reason - surely a little gem like this should be available to buy/rent in the country where it was made? Hai? As in Yes?

the movie is ok.. you must enjoy baseball movies. The shipping.. (moviemars)takes about 10 business days... don't beleive the 3 to 5 business standard delivery

Same sport, different views

I bought this video because I'm teaching a class in intercultural communication. It had been recommended to me by a friend. I took the time to show the whole thing in class, and the students loved it. It linked in so well with the chapter and the lecture. It shows a great look at the culture of Japanese baseball and how one American comes to embrace it. Yes there's a romance, but it takes a backseat to the relationship between American player and Japanese manager and what they learn from each other. It's also a good movie. It was entertaining as well as educational.

Fun Movie

I have always enjoyed Tom Selleck's movies and this is another one I added to my collection. He made so many funny movies in the beginning, capturing the audience with those dimples and that smile. Mr. Baseball is a simple story about a down and out baseball player with a bad attitude that gets sent off to play with a team in Japan. It is a humbling experience for Selleck's character and a fun movie to watch.

Ranks right up there...almost...with bull durham; sadly without Susan Sarandon! Ken Takakura steals this pic hands down!
