the heaviest sledgehammer in existence
Added 3/6/2010
Mr. Woodcock was a surprise for me.but a pleasant one.i found it very
funny.in fact,riotously so,at times.i don't really like Billy Bob
Thornton, but in this case, the movie transcends him.sure,a lot of the
humour is juvenile and raunchy, but sometimes that's what you
need.there's no subtlety here.they brought out the heaviest
sledgehammer they could find, and employed it generously.if you don't
like broad comedy stay away from this one.it also takes a very
cynical view of things, but a lot of people can probably relate to
having someone like Mr. Woodcock as a teacher/authority figure of some
kind in their life,so it might resonate on that level.and it's always nice
to see these things happen to others rather than ourselves.all i know
is,i laughed a lot.for me,Mr.Woodcock is a 4/5

Could This Movie Be Worse? It's A Rhetorical Question!
Added 1/25/2010
Synopsis: Billy Bob Thorton is Mr. Jasper Woodcock, an abusive hard-nosed individual who is eerily reminiscent of his character in Bad Santa. Seann William Scott plays John Farley, a rich and soft-tushed man who is eerily reminiscent of his character in The Rundown. Woodcock tormented Farley as a child and now that Farley's both grown and an accomplished book author, Woodcock is dating Farley's mom (Susan Sarandon) and wishes to become her husband. Will Farley let go of the past and accept his new step-dad or will he go through "uproariously funny hyjinx" to try to prevent the two of them from getting married in a movie who's brand of comedy is eerily similar to Meet the Parents? Amy Poehler plays the snotty publicist while Ethan Suplee plays the big dumb guy.
Remember when Billy Bob Thornton was in films like Sling Blade, A Simple Plan, and Monster's Ball? You won't get anything like that here. Heck, I couldn't even take the review seriously. Aside from a few one-liners from Thornton, there wasn't much I could constitute as comedy in this film. You could fast-forward through most of it and not miss a thing because it's all been done before. I'd ask for my money back but I saw it at a friends house, so all I wasted was time... which still stinks!
I can't recommend it. Next!

Very Funny
Added 7/14/2009
I watched this with a couple of friends and we all thought it was a very good comedy. Not hilarious, but well worth watching, and one of the funnier movies I have seen. The actors are great and the story entertaining.
It deserves way higher ratings than the ones posted here.
