I expected a film called The Shooter to be about a shooting bloke, and it was! There is a lot of shooting going on, some rootin and tootin, and quite a bit of scootin.

Mark Wahlburg is ok, I like the guy, he isn't De Niro, but he is a solid, honest actor who brings his look of quizical confusion to many of his roles, and he does here as well. The plot of both the film, and that of the actual baddies, is over complicated, with the mantra "keep is simple stupid" so beloved (and quite rightly too) of military planners entirely absent, but it makes for a high octane ride.

Not "War and Peace", but still an enjoyable "beer and nuts" film for a weekend night.

The Shooter

The Shooter is just one of those movies that I could watch at any time and still enjoy. It's full of action - very realistic etc. I forget his name but the young guy who plays the FBI agent and the old Tennessee gun expert are excellent in their roles. Just outstanding. I also have to say that the final seane where the "seating US Senator" gets his due is a favorite of mone as well - gee, I wonder why?

Good movie.

This is an enjoyable movie with a lot of replay value (I've watched it a number of times and don't get tired of it). Having it on blu-ray is very nice as there is some incredible scenery in the film. Due to my setup, I actually like the fact that it has dolby 5.1 and not HD dolby... This allows me to get surround sound via a digital optical cable. I have my picture going through an hdmi cable but audio through the optical cable, because of this, a few of my blu-rays have to be played with linear audio and I can't use bitstream (taking away my surround sound). I think it would be great if all blu-rays offered both sound options.

First Class Action Film for Guys (or Gals who like action movies)
Added 1/22/2010

This movie had been recommended to me by my grandson as one of the best movies he had ever seen; after watching this movie with my wife I can see why he said that. My wife on the other hand decided she never wanted to see it again.

I found the movie held my interest all the way through and provided the gratifying ending that these movies can often have. The surround sound and picture were convincing and the dialog was easily understood.

The picture may go a little over the top with its painting of the villains as totally without any redeeming qualities. The demise of the villains as they are picked off one by one is, however, done with satisfying thoroughness.

It winds up being an exciting action film that provides a lot of sound and fury; a fun time for the action movie fan (either guy or gal)!

Poorly Cast For A GREAT Book
Added 12/27/2009

The start of the "Bob Lee Swagger" legacy was "Point Of Impact"! One of my 3 favorite books of all time, (Lonesome Dove & Silence of the Lambs). First mistake? casting: Mark Wahlberg is a 2nd rate "B" list actor at best. The ideal for this guy is someone like a little bit younger Clint Eastwood. Make this great story a "MAJOR' motion picture, not some watered down version. Could NOT be more disapointed. Bob "The Nailer" is one of my favorite action characters, and they give me Mark Friggen Wahlberg.
