how are these people employed?

Yeah so, I don't really do film reviews anymore, because what else is there to say from the same people who say the same things, use the same words, and tell us the same stuff about things we already know. Yeah 'Avatar' is a visual masterpiece, countless National Reviewers claiming 'Hurt Locker' is the best film of the decade are preposterous, 'Sound of Music' and films like 'E.T.' wont ever find a grace again on to tug at our hearts like they once did on celluloid, and Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers won't ever be found in a Lions Gate release.

Too far? Sure. In the last few years the only horror film that was worthy of a review was Decent. Save 'The Mist', which I thought was absolutely remarkable. I thought mehhhhhh, why not, I could use a little Silver Bullet type genre to get the senses going again.

Skinwalkers is the kind of film that should routinely be made to remind myself that I need to seriously reconsider making movies. Just get a gun, seriously, get a gun and shoot yourself in an extremity, a lot more shock value then this paltry attempt at art horror, or art horrific rather.

Give me Jason Robards, Stockard Channing and Kris Kristofferson, wake them up in a log cabin somewhere in DEEP Vermont, put them all in the same room where they can't escape, they have tried to escape, they aren't bound or have any Saw type reason to be there, yet there is no way to get out and as the hours and then days pass on, the thought of hunger sets in slowly. To survive is a bucket of water that smells like urine, and a dead carcass of a human. Skin walk that

Still like Jason Behr

I have been a fan of Jason Behr since Dawson Creek. I own all the Roswells and most of his other movies. I wasn't sure about a movie where he is clearly the bad guy but, I took a chance and I wasn't disappointed. I liked the movie alot and the twist in the plot was great. It not as good as underworld by any means but, it probably didn't have as big a budget to work with. I wish it would have gone more into the background of the legend.

Could have been worse, but should have been better.

Skinwalkers / B000VSDNFA

*Spoilers*

I wanted to like "Skinwalkers", in the same vein that I like a lot of low-budget productions, but I just can't. It's not so much that there's anything wrong with it, so much as it's just so shallow and watered-down that it's hard to stay focused on the movie long enough to make it to the end.

The acting is fine, really - in fact, much better than I usually expect from a hastily thrown together B-movie. And it's nice to see the actress from Beowulf, who seems to specialize in iron-willed women who take horror movie events nicely in stride - something that most movies won't allow their heroines to do. And while the special effects are few and far between, and monstrously cheap when they do show up, I can accept that because god knows movies are expensive enough without having to try to make 'werewolves' look more like wolves and less like vampires with some extra body hair tagged on.

No, what really sinks "Skinwalkers" is not the B-movie acting, or the low special effects budget, or the cookie-cutter 'chosen one' plot. What sinks it is how incredibly slow and shallow it feels as the actors slog to the finish line. There are a few good moments here, such as the shoot-out in the town'o'werewolves (although the whole thing is somewhat marred by the fact that, though the townspeople prepared enough in advance to plant guns under every bench and doorstep, they apparently then failed to *practice* shooting them or even learn how to AIM), but for the most part the entire movie is based around a bunch of people standing around and talking incessantly about irrelevant topics. The overall effect is just so bland and uninteresting that it's hard to even get worked up enough to criticize it - it's not a BAD movie, it's just inexcusably DULL.

I could criticize it for the cookie-cutter plot, which is about as predictable at this point as the sun rising in the mornings, but it feels unfair to slam an obvious B-movie for overusing tropes like "the chosen kid", "the strong single mother", "the missing-presumed-dead father", and - most teeth-grindingly stupid - "the 'turned' ally". Really, this movie is so trite and shallow that it almost feels like a kids' movie, except that the violence will probably not be suitable for younger viewers. I'd strongly recommend giving this one a pass.

lackluster werewolf flick

Incoherence and stupidity are the hallmarks of "Skinwalkers," a cheapjack horror film about two packs of werewolves (one good, the other evil) who are hiding out in Middle America and doing battle over a young messiah figure who, it is prophesied, will bring an end to the curse on his 13th birthday. The problem is that the bad werewolves want to stay just as they are and, thus, are determined to find the boy and destroy him before he can effect the change.

What with its pistol-packing grandmas, its too-cool-for-school, sunglass-wearing, motorcycle-riding lycanthropes, its ludicrous gun battles, and its supremely amateurish writing and acting, "Skinwalkers" plays more like a parody of a zero-budget horror movie than the actual thing. Perhaps that explains why the movie provides far more laughs than thrills in the course of its running time.
