Anyone who likes a western will enjoy this movie/ Trivia details on the filming of Tombstone

Val Kilmer won critical acclaim for his version of Doc Holliday..
he looks pale and thin & since the original Doc was very ill
it enhanced Kilmer's performance..
Kilmer's well delivered quick witted jabs were masterful.

Kurt Russell as Wyatt held his own and I believe this
to be one of his better roles. Bill Paxton and Sam Elliott
also very good in this film.

Wyatt(already a legendary lawman),his brothers,and wives move to
Tombstone,Arizona to gain better fortune in this small mining town.

Wyatt makes enemies of the "Cowboy Gang" lead by "Curly Bill" (Played by
Powers Boothe( delightfully bad)
and Wyatt angers Johnny Ringo aka "The FASTEST GUN IN THE WEST"

The Earp's feel the pressure to rid the community of the
Cowboy Gang,Wyatt and the brothers try to mind their
own business but the Cowboy Gang and the Earp's
path's keep crossing and not in a good way
The cowboys are determined to be rid
of them... and some of Earp brothers are shot....
Wyatt vows to exterminate them..because you
just don't mess with Wyatt's family.

Touches on his relationship to Mattie(believed to be
his common-law wife),Wyatt tries to connect to her but
she is addicted to laudenum(Opium) and her addiction
drives him further away..till he is fed up.

When the beautiful actress Josephine comes to town with
their troup of entertainers he is hooked and falls in love.

I enoyed both Tombstone and Wyatt Earp but I have to say Tombstone
is my favorite of the two..

TRIVIA
1.Kevin Costner originally slated to play the lead in
tombstone but disagree with the film's focus,Costner
felt it should be more about Wyatt Earp and decided to
make Wyatt Earp with Lawrence Kasden.
2.William Defoe was considered to play Holliday, but
the controversey with his role in last temption of Christ
ruled him out.
3.Costner tried to use his clout to convince the studios
not to distribute TOMBSTONE.
4.Russell and Kilmer decided the original screenplay too long,
rather than cut actors or their parts,Kurt Russell decided
to shorten his part in the movie
5. The irrascible, wonderful Robert Mitchum was supposed to play
the Clanton patriarch but a horse riding accident precluded that
but he ultimately narrated the film.
6.Glenn Ford was originally cast as Marshall White...
and why he didn't I don't know.
7. Tombstone beat Wyatt Earp to the theatres by six months & made 56 million
on a 25 million dollar budget. Wyatt Earp had a 63 million dollar
budget and made only 25 million.

Tombstone

Ordered this movie for a friend, whose son recommended it to her. It's great for fans of Westerns. Nicely filmed, appealing actors, and it had Charlton Heston who could have read the phone book and been great. Val Kilmer played his part winningly; Kurt Russell is always good in a movie, comedy, western, or whatever. This would never be a favorite of mine, though, as I am not a western fan especially. But for those who like this sort of plot, it seemed like one they would enjoy.

Tombstone
Added 2/18/2010

After success cleaning up Dodge City, Wyatt Earp moves to Tombstone, Arizona, and wishes to get rich in obscurity. He meets his brothers there, as well as his old friend Doc Holliday. A band of outlaws that call themselves The Cowboys are causing problems in the region with various acts of random violence, and inevitably come into confrontation with Holliday and the Earps, which leads to a shoot-out at the OK Corral. A powerful cast is essential for a great Western, and you couldn't find a better group of actors as the Earp brothers. This is a thrill ride for anyone who loves westerns. "TOMBSTONE" is a truly a superior movie.

Great Western
Added 2/17/2010

This is a great western about Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holiday. This has to be one of the best 90's westerns that was released, behind Unforgiven of course.
