It's about time it came out on DVD!
Added 2/27/2010
This is a great movie, but I'm not a critic and I'll leave that to others. Although the description doesn't mention it, this is an anamorphic 16 x 9 version of the movie. Quality is not quite as good as some movies that have been digitally remastered, but for the most part pretty clean and without a doubt better than any other version available. One problem...the disc is flawed at approximately 57:30 into the picture for a couple of minutes. I sent my first one back and got a replacement, but it was flawed in the same place. Amazon paid shipping on both discs and then credited my purchase price after I returned the second one with a message describing the problem (can't complain about service like that!), stating that their inventory was likely all that way. I'm waiting a while, then I'll reorder.

Poor quality
Added 2/10/2010
The quality of this DVD was exremely poor. The picture was blurry and, in the middle of the movie stopped all together. It looked as if someone had recorded from a low-grade VCR tape directly to the DVD.

WOOP WOOP

I love this movie. I have been waiting for it to come out on DVD for years. I have searched and searched for options of downloading this movie from Australian download sites. Finally Amazon offered it on DVD. I have it on VHS and have seen it 15 times. If you want a fun movie and do not have to analyze every single thing in a movie and spoil it, then you will like this movie. It is an adventure with twist and turns that entertain you all the way through. The Australian slang is so comical once you figure out what it means.
***Now, the only thing I noticed on the DVD is near the end a scene starts rolling like a reel tape at the movie theater. It only happens for a few seconds, but I did not complain about it. If you copy does this, I am sure Amazon would work it out with you. I have been waiting for this for so long, I can deal with that one little slip.

MGM on demand title with manufacturing defect
Added 1/7/2010
Widescreen presentation enhanced for 16x9 TVs. Some shimmer and artifacts, but overall picture was adequate. Rainbow and shimmer effect on end titles, so it could use improvement. As in the two other on demand titles from MGM, movie starts right away after inserted into player. No top menu.
The other two MGM On Demand titles (The Group and Two For The SeeSaw were both fine and without defect, but in my opinion, the quality of the Warner Archive and Universal Vault on demand titles were better).
DEFECTIVE: Copy I received has major defect at about 57.30 into the film and lasts for a couple of minutes, (yes I did check if there was surface dirt on the disc). Returned the disc for a replacement.
UPDATE: The replacement disc has the same flaw in the exact same place. Returning the DVD until I hear if they get the source fixed. Not a good start for MGM on demand.
Too bad. Woop Woop is quirky and fun. Johnathon Schaech is great! This film really deserves a formal release DVD or Blu-Ray.

WELCOME TO WOOP WOOP
Added 12/30/2009
IT DOESN'T SAY WHETHER IT IS WIDESCREEN OR NOT. I DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF A DVD-R. IS THE STUDIO DUMB TO NOT KNOW THIS WOULD BE A GOOD RETAIL PRODUCT?
I SAW IT IN HD ON THE HD MGM NETWORK BUT THEY HAVE COMMERCIALS IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR FEATURES.
DUMB. HBO AND OTHER PREMIUM CHANNELS DO NOT USE LOGOS AND COMMERCIALS, ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A FEATURE.
I NO LONGER WATCH THE FOX HD CHANNEL AND GO THE THE HD MOVIE NETWORK OWNED BY MARK CUBAN. LIKE TCM AND AMC THAT FEATURE CLASSIC TITLES. TCM HAS MORE VIEWERS. AMC, WHEN IT WAS NEW, HAD NO COMMERCIALS. NOW IT IS A WASTE OF TIME.
MOVIES THAT AREN'T INTERRUPTED WITH COMMERCIALS ON CABLE IS WHY THE THREE NETWORKS ARE LOSING VIEWERS.
IN THE FUTURE THEY WILL PROBABLY GO ON CABLE, (WELL MOST ARE ALREADY) BUT WILL SOON BE COMMERCIAL FREE SINCE VIEWERS WILL BE CHARGED A FEE.
IN THE UK PEOPLE PAY A FEE (TAX) FOR COMMERCIAL FREE PROGRAMMING.
"WELCOME TO WOOP WOOP" WAS MADE BY THE DIRECTOR OF "PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT." THE NEW ON DEMAND BY MGM STATED PRISCILLA WAS NEVER RELEASED ON DVD. THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THEIR OWN PRODUCT.
THEY ALSO LIST "TRAPEZE," THAT HAS BEEN ON DVD FOR A FEW YEARS, SAYING IT HAS NEVER BEEN ON THE MARKET. WAS RECENTLY $5 AT WALMART. HIRE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE BUSINESS. I WON'T PAY A HIGH PRICE FOR ANY DVD-R.
ISN'T THIS WHAT PIRATED MOVIES ARE ON THE INTERNET? I BOUGHT THE JOHNNY WEISSMULLER TARZAN SET ON THE INTERNET. ALL HOME MADE COPIES ON DVD-R FOR $9. I THREW THEM AWAY AND NEVER EVEN WATCHED THEM.
