What an awesome game!
Added 1/30/2010
This game was fun, interesting, and beautiful to look at. Someone watching me play said, "The graphics are terrible," but when I told them it was supposed to look like watercolor paintings, they looked again and thought it was really cool. It is a very loooong game (in a good way!) - every time I thought I had beaten the game, there was another entire adventure that came next. I ended up playing for about 70 hours over 150 days. There are just a few frustrating parts that I wish had not been included, and I must admit I resorted to online walkthroughs a few times when it seemed I was wandering aimlessly and couldn't figure out what to do next. But I really like that you don't "die and start over" - there are lots of opportunities to try again if you get stuck, so the frustration level is much less than other games. If you like adventure, solving puzzles, and a game with a deeply woven story, GET THIS GAME!

Perfect for non gamer.
Added 12/30/2009
I'm going to start out by saying I am not a video gamer. At least I used to not be. My boyfriend loves his video games (Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, etc) and always tried to get me to play. He had this game in the back of a cabinet, and thought it was silly. He'd never played it, but his 9 year old niece had. One day I let him talk me into trying a game. The one we settled on was Okami. For the next month he could not drag me away! I absolutely love this game. It starts off fairly easy which is good for those of us who don't have alot of experience. There's also a little guy who travels with you and is kind of a tutor. Issun, (the tutor) is funny alot of the time, but he can get annoying. The graphics are beautiful. This is what happens when they stop trying to make a game realistic and they just use their imaginations. The music is also really great. There are some times when you have to fight, but if you really don't want to, you can skip most of the little fights. There are little puzzles and riddles to solve, and you constantly are running around doing things for other people and animals in the game. Oh, did I mention that you are a wolf? Yea, you play as Ammy, the god of the sun. I absolutely recommend this game for someone who is just starting out in the gaming world. I can't wait to get it on Wii!

Unique and artistic
Added 12/29/2009
I got this game for my little brothers as a Christmas gift. It was highly praised by critcs i.e.,IGN, and surely it did not disappoint. Okami portrays a terrific story based on Japanese myth and lore. Okami is quite simple, yet exceptionally fun. My brothers love it and can't put it down, and at times even I find it hard to. Okami is an incredibly artistic game, truly one of a kind, and easily one of the best games in the PS2's great library. More than worht it's asking price.

There are very few video games I will award five stars to.
Added 12/18/2009
But I am more than willing to hand down 5+ stars to Okami (as many reviewers have before me).
Where to begin? Without sounding repetitive and touching on too many of the popular points, Okami is simply a piece of art. The entire concept, especially your celestial brush drawing ability, is ingenious, and the graphics are soothing and incredibly beautiful. I really can't say enough about how much I love the colors, scenery, and design.
I do have to point out, however, that Okami is generally a straight-forward walk in the park. In my first 30 hours of gameplay, I really was only "stuck" twice. More often than not, Issun, your Poncle guide, will indicate in highlighted red letters what you probably should be doing; otherwise, the camera will zoom in and out in a brief cutscene, indicating exactly what needs to be done in a given puzzle room.
However, I can't really say that this is a downfall. Okami is actually so -fun- that it doesn't need to be difficult: the player will enjoy themselves enough with the graphics, design, characters, sidequests, and battle sequences. You won't need to be challenged to love this game. That said, though, if you're shopping around for an artsier Ninja Gaiden, this isn't the game for you.
I have only two complaints for this game. First, the camera seems to get stuck every once in awhile in this version of the game (I can't speak for the Wii). By "stuck," I mean it zooms in close enough to be an FPS and then can't zoom out--or I'll get stuck in a corner and won't be able to tell which way is up. This is really unfortunate, since the rest of the gameplay is all so smooth. Second, I take issue with the fact that some of the most fun brush techniques (and the double-jump) come so late in the game. For example, at one point in the game you can attain a holy artifact called the Water Tablet, which allows you to run across the surface of water on lilypads - so cool/so much fun! However, you don't attain this until 3/4 of the way through the game, and at that point it is practically useless unless you backtrack to the first town and re-adventure across the map once more. I can handle that, but I really would have liked to have techniques like this earlier in the game to get more enjoyment out of them.
That said, I still give Okami 5+ stars. The handling is 99.9% smooth, the characters are fun, the graphics are breath-taking, and the story is loaded. You will not regret this purchase!

Amazing and Challenging
Added 1/23/2010
God Hand is very enjoyable in a purely boneheaded beat em up sense, but on hard mode the game is also easily as difficult as Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry 3 on their respective difficulties. Yes, it is about as outrageous and hilarious as you have probably heard, but it's also incredibly satisfying and very, very cool.

"God Hand: A Good Beat 'em Up Game"
Added 11/4/2009
I relieved a lot of tension from this game. The whole game is very repetitive, do not expect special missions. It is just plain old beat 'em up. Remember Golden Axe, yeah... it's an evolution of it.
Other than that, the colourful characters and their comments is surprising. You really do not know what world you are in.

Near-perfect game.
Added 5/3/2009
God Hand is an absolutely amazing game. The graphics are great, the action is intense, the combat is superb, the control scheme is awesome, and the whole thing is funnier and more absurd than most other things that try to be. It's literally just a story of a guy who's pissed, so he beats the hell out of everything, but the story's also unexpectedly deep. Everything about this game just blew me away when it came out, and most of it still does.
And not only is it one the best games on the PS2, it originally sold for $20 and it's either that OR CHEAPER now! I can understand that not everyone likes the game, but you're doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't even try it.
