New Featurette for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Sells the Film as a Superhero Movie

A new featurette for director Timur Beckmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has gone online.  Bits and pieces of new footage are interspersed with Beckmambetov, writer Seth Grahame-Smith, and producer Tim Burton talking about the film.  Essentially they’re selling the movie as a valid entry in the superhero genre, with Burton going so far as to compare their Abraham Lincoln to Batman.  I wasn’t a huge fan of Beckmambetov’s Wanted, and I’m still not convinced that Vampire Hunter won’t be a series of action sequences filled with so-earnest-it’s-cheesy dialogue.  I’d love nothing more than to be pleasantly surprised, but I still feel like the film would’ve been a lot more fun if the premise had been played tongue-in-cheek. Hit the jump to watch the featurette.  The pic stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and opens in 3D (Read More)

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Poster

Dark goings-on from Timur Bekmambetov This new poster for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter puts old Abe (Benjamin Walker) front and centre in the movie's not-entirely-historical world. On a train, to be precise. A flaming death train . Well, this is a Timur Bekmambetov movie. It was never going to be the 16.47 to Wanstead. {Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - New Poster} Adapted from Seth Grahame-Smith vampire genre mash, Vampire Hunter sticks an axe into Abraham Lincoln's hand and no doubt sneaks a trick or two under that stovepipe hat, as the Prez tackles the massed ranks of the undead. The vampire cohorts are led by the exceptionally nasty Adam (Rufus Sewell), while saddling up on Team Abe are wife Mary Todd Lincoln (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and his vampire-smiting guru Henry Sturges (Dominic Cooper). To recap: that's Howard Stark and Ramona Flowers versus the massed ranks (Read More)

Dominic Cooper Joins Colin Farrell in Action Thriller DEAD MAN DOWN

After briefly flirting with the revenge thriller Motor City, actor Dominic Cooper is now set to join Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace in the actioner Dead Man Down.  The revenge tale stars Farrell as a mobster’s hitman bent on revenge and Rapace as “a mysterious, scarred beauty” who has intimate knowledge of Farrell’s past.  Variety reports that Cooper is in talks to play a family man who works as Farrell’s partner. Niels Arden Oplev, who directed Rapace in the Swedish iteration of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is onboard to helm the pic with Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) producing. Cooper earned notice for his starring turn in last year’s The Devil’s Double, and also appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger and My Week with Marilyn.  He’ll next be seen in the historical documentary Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which opens this summer. Production on Dead Man Down begins later this month.
