Description: In this fresh new look at a classic story, Russell Brand reinvents the role of loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of his lifelong nanny and best friend Hobson (Helen Mirren), to keep him out of trouble. Kind-hearted, fun-loving, and utterly without purpose, Arthur spends every day in the heedless pursuit of amusement. But when his unpredictable public image threatens the staid reputation of the family foundation, Bach Worldwide, he is given an ultimatum: marry the beautiful but decidedly unlovable Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner), an ambitious corporate exec who can keep him in line, or say goodbye to his billion-dollar inheritance and the only way of life he knows. It's a deal Arthur would be inclined to take - if he hadn't just fallen for Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a New York City tour guide who shares his idealism and spontaneity. The independent Naomi sees Arthur not only for who he is, but for who he could be, and finally gives him a reason to take charge of his own life. All he needs to do is stand up for what he wants. But at what cost? With some unconventional help from Hobson - the one person who always believed he could do anything - Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and learn what it means to become a man.

GRETA GERWIG speaks DAMSELS IN DISTRESS

A short exchange with Greta Gerwig goes a long way. She's identified with a loosely defined film movement called mumblecore but she is beholden to no style but her own. Scene stealing work in Ti West's House of the Devil (2009) and Baghead (2008) led to bigger roles that have turn her into an indie heartthrob, and the chance to play opposite everyone from Ben Stiller to Russell Brand in Greenberg (2010) and Arthur (2011). Besides a role in the new Woody Allen film To Rome With Love (2012) and a starring role in the upcoming Lola Versus (2012) she recently found time to star in the utterly enchanting Damsels in Distress for Whit Stillman. The lady is heading places. I was just joking with...

Greta Gerwig Spills Details About the Mysterious Movie She Wrote and Secretly Shot

Greta Gerwig is no stranger to screenwriting, as already in her young career she’s had writing credits on indie standouts like Nights and Weekends and Hannah Takes the Stairs. But, most recently, she’s been focusing more heavily on acting, as she’s been getting a string of roles in increasingly more mainstream projects. She’s gone from being the darling of the mumblecore movement, a sort of punk rock form of indie filmmaking that was all the rage a few years ago, to having roles in mainstream comedies like Arthur and No Strings Attached, and being featured in the films of big names in the arthouse world like Noah Baumbach, Whit Stillman, and Woody Allen. Still, despite her success in front of the camera, it doesn’t seem like the actress is ready to give up her creative pursuits behind the scenes just yet. In an interview promoting her work in Stillman’s recent release, Damsels in Dist (Read More)

‘Lola Versus’ Trailer: Greta Gerwig Gets Dumped, Then Lays On The Charm

It's deeply distressing to see an actress such as Greta Gerwig, whose work I enjoy so immensely since she popped up in Hannah Takes the Stairs, end up in so many films that I didn't like. Namely 2011&#8242s The Dish &#38 The Spoon and Arthur. That said, it sure won't stop me from being hopeful that she will break out big in 2012, with Whit Stillman's  Damsels in Distress hitting this week, a spot in Woody Allen's To Rome with Love in the summer and this film, Lola Versus. Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for Lola Versus, in which Ms. Gerwig plays the titular gal, who finds herself dumped by her boyfriend just three weeks before their wedding. In response, she sets out with a group of her closest friends on and adventure through life and love that will hopefully help her deal with coming up on 30 as a single woman. It's not exactly targeted at bearded 20-something men l (Read More)

Lola Versus Trailer Arrives

Greta Gerwig's all out of love In real life, you rarely have the perfect soundtrack playing for the big moments, but thats not true in movies (or in this case, trailers), where a lot of thought goes into such things. So Greta Gerwig &ndash probably still best known for Greenburg and Arthur &ndash has the ideal tracks for when her romantic world falls apart in the promo for Lola Versus , which you can see over at Apple. Gerwigs Lola is excited at the prospect of marriage to rock star fianc&eacute (Joel Kinnaman), only to arrive home one day to discover that he just cant handle the pressure of a long-term commitment. Advised by friends such as Alice (Zoe Lister Jones, who co-wrote the script with director Daryl Wein) and Henry (Hamish Linklater), she tries to emerge from her post-relationship cocoon by trying new things, dating new people and trying to find her place in t (Read More)
