'Taken' Director Pierre Morel Plans International Thriller 'Bastille Day'

With his action thriller Distrcit B13 landing him the high profile and surprisingly successful flick Taken with Liam Neeson, director Pierre Morel has at least been having fun with action, including the silly but mostly entertaining From Paris with Love starring John Travolta. Now it sounds like he&#039s keeping the action going strong overseas with another international thriller in his future. Heat Vision has word that Morel will direct a new thriller called Bastille Day from Andrew Baldwin, a screenwriter who has had two scripts show up on The Black List and is currently writing the remake of Logan&#039s Run for Nicolas Winding Refn. TAKEN Director Pierre Morel to Helm BASTILLE DAY

Director Pierre Morel has been set to helm the actioner Bastille Day.  Vendome Pictures and Anonymous Content announced today that they will be producing the film from a screenplay by Andrew Baldwin.  The story centers on “a young American artist living in Paris and a washed up CIA agent who together are tasked with diverting an imminent attack on the city.”  Morel is no stranger to international thrillers as he previously helmed the “Liam Neeson is a badass” film Taken.  He most recently directed the decidedly less awesome actioner From Paris with Love starring John Travolta. Baldwin has been a hot screenwriter as of late, gaining notice for his Black List script The West Is Dead.  He’s been working on the script for the Logan’s Run remake for director Nicholas Winding Refn and Warner Bros. is moving forward with his period Yakuza pic The Outsider with Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) att (Read More)

Anatomy of a picture: Savages

What does this poster tell us to expect from Oliver Stone&#039s new film? 1 The tattoo Blake Lively&#039s arm is strewn with images of butterflies on barbed wire. What could this mean? That she&#039s an irresistible mixture of delicate and dangerous? That her barbed wire factory was in the middle of a honeysuckle meadow? That she has terrible taste in tattoos? 2 Benicio&#039s blade Benicio Del Toro plays a violent member of a Mexican drug cartel, but the close cropping of these photos makes it impossible to tell how long his blade is. It might be a dagger, or a full-on Zorro sword, or it might even be a bespoke 30ft knife that Benicio spends the flick staggering beneath like a beleaguered caber-tosser. Hopefully it&#039s that. 3 Typographical rocket The "AVA" in "Savages" has been deliberately set to look like a space rocket. Could this mean that Oliver Stone has adapted Don Winslo (Read More)
