Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, IMAX and 3D

The Dark Knight Rises director, Mr Christopher Nolan, has been chatting about his use of IMAX, and his non-use of stereoscopic 3D, in his new film… Theres a really interesting interview with Christopher Nolan thats popped up over at the Directors Guild Of America (DGA) website. In it, he talks about why hes still shooting on film when virtually everyone else has gone digital, why he doesnt shoot with a second unit, how he works with actors, and why he barely storyboards anything unless he absolutely needs to. And, inevitably, he talks quite a bit about this summers new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises , too. At first, he talks about the movie in the context of the IMAX format, of which hes a massive fan. He shot some sequences of The Dark Knight , of course, using IMAX, and hes done the same again with The Dark Knight Rises . But why? Well, For The Dark Knight Ris (Read More)

Chris Nolan Talks The Dark Knight Rises

And Anne Hathaway chats her gym time... As we creep ever closer to the July 20 release for The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan and his cast have started to open up a little more about the slightly anticipated final entry in his Bat-franchise. But when we say “a little more,” we mean it, as this is Nolan and co, after all, who might as well work for the intelligence services for all the information they’re usually willing to part with. But chatting to EW, Nolan has been talking up the movie’s two big new characters, Bane and Selena Kyle, AKA Catwoman. “He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” says Nolan of the former, played by Tom Hardy. Which isn’t exactly news given that everything we’ve seen of the man’s actions so far scream danger and power. But he’s slightly more forthcoming on his vision for Kyle, calling her “a shifty cipher, ca (Read More)

First Looper poster revealed

Looper, the upcoming action sci-fi from Brick director Rian Johnson, is a flick that we&#039re particularly excited about, so we were pleased to see the first poster revealed… and it&#039s looking rather cool. Anyone who has followed the flick with a passing interest will be unsurprised to discover that the poster focusses on Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, who play the same character, Joe, at different points in time. JGL plays a hitman who whacks targets sent back in time from 30 years in the future, but he faces a brain-melting conundrum when tasked with offing his older self. Johnson has always subverted genre expectations, and we expect him to continue that with Looper. Here&#039s hoping for a lo-fi Inception, with the same combo of cool concept and jaw-dropping execution. There&#039s something in Gordon-Levitt&#039s leather jacket that recalls Chris Nolan&#039s sci-f (Read More)

New Poster for Rian Johnson’s LOOPER Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis

The first poster for Rian Johnson's Looper has gone online.  The futuristic thriller takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the Black Market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed.  I adore Johnson's previous movies, Brick and The Brothers Bloom, and Looper is one of my most-anticipated films of the year.  I'm still distracted by the make-up design that was used to make Gordon-Levitt resemble Willis, but Johnson has earned my trust.  The poster borrows the Inception font (I believe the font is officially called "Gotham"), and while I love the tagline, Gordon-Levitt looks like he's CG.  Handsome CG, but still CG. Hit the jump to check out th (Read More)
