Description: Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol". Blu-Ray Review: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL
Out of all the films that were hitting in late 2011, the one I was most looking forward to was the return of Ethan Hunt on the very, very big screen. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is notable for a couple reasons - first, it marks the debut of Brad Bird as a live action director, formerly associated with 2D The Simpsons TV show, Iron Giant and 3D work for Pixar Incredibles, Up, Rattatouile. The MI series has always been a pet project for Tom Cruise, his first big films as producers for Paramount. The four films are each uniquely styled by the director that Cruise has employed. Tom Cruise Sings Hair Metal And Alec Baldwin Air-Guitars In New ‘Rock Of Ages’ Trailer
The best thing that can be said about the new trailer for Rock of Ages, a modern musical about ‘80s Sunset Strip rock/hair metal, is that, um, well gosh, it sure is shiny and bright. That’s something, right? I mean, someone must want to see Tom Cruise play an amalgamation of Jon Bon Jovi, David Coverdale, and Steve Perry, backed by a soundtrack that sounds like the cast of Glee discovering a mixtape cassette in the back of a 1985 Toyota Hatchback parked a block down from the Whiskey a Go Go. Right? While the film’s first trailer gave us the basic plot pitch—a young rock fan wants to be the next big thing and emulates Tom Cruise’s rocker character, all while a conservative coalition rallies to put an end to the devil’s music—the new trailer goes deeper with a more character beats. Brad Bird passes his audition for a career as a live-action director. And Ghost Protocol more than makes its bones as an argument for why Tom Cruise should continue in this role as long as his knees, and his nerves, hold up.
