Moneyball and I Am Legend directors up for The Hunger Games sequel?

The shortlist of potential directors for Catching Fire, the second The Hunger Games movie, has some new additions… A quick recap. The Hunger Games is very good. It has made lots of money. Due to scheduling problems, in part caused by Jennifer Lawrences commitment to the next X-Men movie, director Gary Ross has passed on the chance to helm Catching Fire , the next story in The Hunger Games series. This has left Lionsgate in need of a new director, with a tight deadline to meet before Lawrence is needed elsewhere. Thus, Lionsgate had a shortlist of directors, it was revealed last week, that included Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and David Cronenberg. CATCHING FIRE Adds Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence to Potential Director List

With Gary Ross' non-return to direct the follow up of his blockbuster film, The Hunger Games, Lionsgate turned to a wish-list of directors that included David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. While those names were merely placeholders for a director with an arrow's chance in Panem at getting the job (something we waxed poetic about in our recent podcast), two more names have cropped up that seem to have a bit more validity to them. Reportedly, some conversations have already taken place with directors Bennett Miller (Moneyball) and Francis Lawrence (Constantine) to helm the sequel, Catching Fire. Catching Fire Director Wish List Growing

With The Hunger Games director Gary Ross officially out has helmer of Catching Fire, Lionsgate has put together a wish list of who they want to direct the next chapter of the Suzanne Collins series. The group is led by David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron (our choice!) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Sources inside the studio have us reporting that Moneyball director Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend) have been added to the list of contenders. We’re not so sure about Lawrence, but Miller is an interesting choice. He’s got experience stepping in for another director when the first helmer bailed.
