Hunger Games Retains Box Office Crown
Three Stooges pratfall into second The Hunger Games continued to rule at the US box office this weekend, easily seeing off competition from pratfalling numbskulls and tweaked horror concepts. Yes, the first adaptation of Suzanne Collins bestselling trilogy earned another $21.5 million, pushing its current domestic total to $337 million. That meant the Farrelly brothers long-gestating take on The Three Stooges had to make do with second, though it arrived to a decent $17.1 million. The Cabin In The Woods scared up third place, earning $14.8 million, not too shabby for a film that has been stuck in release limbo for years thanks to MGMs financial woes. That said, we predict Joss Whedons other, slightly buzzed-about film for the year (something about a superhero team who avenge, or somesuch thing) could end up making slightly more when it arrives in a couple of weeks.
