Plot: A man falls for an exotic bad girl, unaware he's already met the nice girl lurking beneath the surface, in this romantic comedy. Samantha Blake (Joanne Woodward) works for a large department store in New York City as a sort of industrial spy; while ostensively a buyer, Blake's greatest responsibility is to find out what the hot new fashions are going to be, so her store can have cut-price knockoffs on the racks once they hit the boutiques. Samantha is flying to Paris with her co-workers Leena (Thelma Ritter) and Joe (George Tobias) when she meets Steve Sherman (Paul Newman), a no-nonsense reporter who has been assigned to cover the unveiling of the new designer lines. Samantha and Steve don't exactly hit it off, and after arriving in Paris, a depressed Samantha makes her way to a beauty salon after a few cocktails too many. Decked out in a new wig and dressed to the nines, Samantha bumps into Steve, who is convinced she's one of the city of lights' glamorous high-priced call girls. Samantha plays along, and Steve writes a story about her which proves to be a hit with his readers, but as she finds herself falling for Steve, she isn't sure how to tell him that she's really the mousy woman he met on his flight to Paris. A New Kind Of Love also features cameo appearances from Maurice Chevalier and Frank Sinatra, the latter of whom sings the title song. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A new kind of love

It is the kind of movie that one enjoys because, due to the lack of special effects, the actors were required to act and the writers had to have a great story that captured the attention of the audience. These qualities are sadly lacking in many of todays' movies.

Love this movie!!!

This is my favorite Paul Newman movie ever!!! This is with his wife to be and him. They throw sparks off the screen! I'm a younger person that LOVES older movies. This one takes the cake! All the differnt scenes with how she changes herself to be what a man wants and then gets trapped into this character in which she has to play something totally opposite from what she's used to. Only to fall for the man she's pretending with and he finds out and figures out he loves her for her being herself! How many movies show you how to be yourself in the end with such flare? Probably none.

Arrived quickly and package perfect. I had ordered a bunch of old Paul Newman movies, and this was my favorite. Very quirky, very fun. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward are great together in this movie. I am a huge Paul Newman fan, and I really enjoyed it.

This is a fun romantic comedy, I love this movie. If you are a fan of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward than you want this one in your collection.
They are both sexy and funny and Joanne brings a side of women that we can all identify with.
Thelma Ritter is one of my favorite supporting actresses, her sarcastic style of humor just makes all the rest work.

One of my all time favorite movies since I was a little girl & was enthralled by the fashion & color in this funny story. Shirley MacLaine in her great days as a beautiful dancer, people will be so surprised at her talent from so long ago. Also many actors from those Rat Pack days are really fun too watch

Silly fun
Added 10/15/2009

This is a pretty silly film, but it has a huge cast of some of the greats in small but interesting little parts. It is mostly Shirley, but when you throw in Dean Martin, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Mitchum, Paul Newman and Gene Kelly doing their marvelous piece of the story it makes for an enjoyable couple of hours.

Try it, you'll like it
