Oustanding audio dramatization
Added 1/16/2010
Just to be clear, this review is not of Kenneth Grahame's book itself (which gets six stars out of five, in my opinion) but of this BBC radio dramatization of it. It came out in the mid-1990s, and I certainly wish BBC would reissue it again on CD! It's the best retelling I've ever heard - it doesn't "dumb down" the story, but makes it fresh, alive, and dramatic for listeners of all ages. Bring it back, please!

Straighten Things Out!
Added 9/23/2009
I don't care whether you publish this; I do care that you get things straightened out. You have the same reviews appearing with two DIFFERENT editions of "The Wind in the Willows." One is the Centennial edition with the illustations of E.H. Shephard and one is the Everyman's Children's Classics edition with the illustrations of Arthur Rackham. What will be VERY important to some readers (like me) is that one reviewer points out that a substantial amount of "Bowdlerization" has taken place -- I assume in only ONE of the two editions. All references to guns and knives have been deleted, and a whole chapter dealing with the Deity has been cut out. I will want the unabridged edition -- which is it?!

I was supposed to get a copy of the adapted play, but they sent me a copy of the book instead. I needed it for a children's theater club, and by the time it arrived it was too late to return. The book I received is in excellent condition, it's just not what I ordered.

Ratty, Mole and Toad
Added 8/14/2009
Wind In The Willows is my favorite children's book and one of my favorite books for adults. The three main characters will forever be a model for any group of friends who have read the novel. Who would play Mr. Toad? is one of my favorite questions when the story comes up in conversation. Or with a group of friends, let the group identify each character in their friends.
Chapter Six, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn still gives me a thrill and I have read it at least ten times, several times to my sisters.
Oh, we are all over 65 years of age.
A book for all ages for sure. Loaded with the English love of home and nesting, of good fellowship, of good food. And adventures galore.
