808 (originally Planet Rock & Other Tales of the 808) is a 2015 American documentary film directed, co-produced and co-written by Alexander Dunn, co-produced by Arthur Baker, Craig Kallman and Alex Noyer and co-written by Luke Bainbridge. It is narrated by Zane Lowe and documents the history and culture of the Roland TR-808, one of the first programmable drum machines that had a significant effect on 1980s hip hop and pop music. The film premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) on March 13, 2015, and was released on Apple Music exclusively on December 9, 2016 and was released on December 16 by Atlantic Films.
