With a dancer's body unlike any before hers, Tanaquil Le Clercq mesmerized viewers and choreographers alike, and eventually became a muse to two of the great figures in dance, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. She eventually married Balanchine but continued an intimate friendship with Robbins who created his famous version of "Afternoon of a Faun" for her.
Tanaquil le Clercq had love, fame, adoration, and was the foremost dancer of her day - until she was struck down by polio and paralyzed at the age of 27. She never danced again, and the ballet world has been haunted by her story ever since.
