Maggie McNeil is a young and pretty Irish girl with a talent for singing. With the encouragement of George, a musician, she decides on an operatic career and the two elope to Paris. There they meet Kober, an impresario who takes Maggie under his wing, renames her Irela and instructs her to follow his advice. George, frustrated by this, declares his love for her and forbids her to be guided by Kober. She chooses her career instead of George and although angry at first, he realises she must follow her instincts. A glittering career seems to be inevitable, but will it come at any personal cost?
