OSCAR WINNER:
Best Supporting Actor - Van Heflin
Tough-talking, two-timing and terrific, Lana Turner stars as the co-ed daughter of a district attorney who takes a walk on the wild side when she falls for a mobster known as Johnny Eager.
Paroled convict Johnny Eager (Robert Taylor) pretends to go straight, but he's really trying to open a dog-racing track. His only impediment is the district attorney (Edward Arnold) responsible for his trial and conviction.
Yet when Johnny realizes that young Lisbeth Bard, the D.A.'s stepdaughter, is attracted to him, he frames her for murder, convinces her she's guilty, and uses this to blackmail the district attorney. But Johnny doesn't plan on the affect that Lisbeth's love—even after all he has done to her—will have on him.
