Award-winning writer-director Jane Anderson (HBO’s Normal, Olive Kitteridge and If These Walls Could Talk II) grew up surrounded by her great-aunt Edith’s brilliant, light-drenched paintings, which had been found by her mother in a trunk after 40 years in the dusty attic. When Jane learned that Edith had been committed to an asylum by the family lawyer in the midst of a family dispute about her relationship to a woman, Jane set out to learn more about her great-aunt. The film follows Jane and her spouse Tess in their efforts to find answers to the mystery of Edith’s buried life, return her work to Provincetown, and have Edith’s contributions recognized by the art world.
