One Sunday afternoon, Paul Pearson (Patrick Holt) is at home with his wife (Honor Blackman) and child when he receives a phone call from Diana, a woman with whom he was having an affair. He arranges to meet her and plans to tell her that it is all over. Before he goes, he arranges an alibi for himself - his poker friend, Bill Forrest. He meets Diane and gives her the news, but unbeknown to him Forrest has been murdered. When the police interview Peter's wife, she states that he was with Forrest the previous evening. Now a suspect in a murder investigation, he must find Diane to tell the police the truth. Someone else, however, knows this and wishes to silence her, permanently.
