The Challenge

This true story tells the tale of Edward Whymper, an English climber who led the first successful attempt to climb the Matterhorn. An Italian guide, Carrel, swears to conquer the mountain, and agrees to lead Whymper to the summit. Carrel changes his mind and leaves him to go on alone, but later returns to find Whymper injured. He helps Whymper to the safety of a village where they become friends. However, their competitive natures lead them on rival expeditions and certain consequences to face.
